![]() I've always loved Del Mar and the immediate surrounding areas such as Carlsbad, La Jolla, etc. However, I was never a fan of the actual city of San Diego, which is around 15-20 miles from Del Mar. Anyway, I was down at Del Mar for the day recently and I went to San Diego to meet some friends for dinner who live there. I could not believe how much San Diego has changed. It has become the coolest, nicest, hippest place I have ever seen. It is unbelievable. They built a brand new stadium downtown for the Padres and the whole area has been revitalized. They have spent around $6 billion totally re-building downtown San Diego the last few years. There are so many nice restaurants it is incredible. There are a ton of nice, new hotels. There are hundreds of people walking the streets. There are 100s of bicycle-carriages and even some horse-drawn carriages on the street. There is a hotel less than a block from Padre Stadium that has a bar on the roof on the 22nd floor. You can actually watch the game from there.
I'm still in a state of shock at how nice it's become. It used to be one of my least favorite cities and now it's probably my favorite city. If any of you go to Del Mar, you have to check out downtown San Diego. |

![]() I'm an open minded, inquisitive, probably relatively easily pleased traveler.
I'm really looking forward to Del Mar next weekend. But I've gotta say, I think I know downtown San Diego pretty well. (all the exits off of I-8 and I-5 and everything.....:-).........) Methinks you work for the San Diego tourism council, or something. |
