maybe they could take a page out of the gate selection show that thankfully no longer exists...have a mockup of the two horses, and he puts a cardboard cutout of himself on one of them. it would be as exciting as the heisman award show.

That is too complicated. Put the name of the winning horse on the front of a cap, have the cap placed backwards (which will appeal to an entirely new audience) on Gomez's head, and at the appropriate time, Gomez turns the cap around and utters some ad jingle. It will be a happy marriage of commercialism and cheesieness.

he might be too upset now knowing he doesn't have an oaks mount(yet) to show for the decision.

Hope the magic Anderson worked for Bailey in picking Derby mounts rubs off on Gomez!

It's laughable how people think jockeys picking their mounts make such a big deal. I must have heard a million times how Smarty Jones couldn't win the Derby because Stew Elliott was his jockey. Whatever. Some horrible riders have won huge races and good ones haven't. Hell, Gomez is a great rider, no doubt, how many triple crown races has he won?

That's right- ZERO.

In the case of Gomez' choices, either POTN is going to like the dirt and run well, top 3, or he isn't and he'll finish 12th, and Dunkirk is going to continue to move forward and run well, top 3, or he's going to melt down due to the lack of experience and he isn't. It's a guessing game for us and a guessing game for him. It doesn't matter in the end who he chooses.

I think the Derby post position draw would be more fun for everyone if the trainers/owners got to hang the actual jockey on a little hook under the gate number.

First of all, Gomez needs to get over himself. Going on TV to announce his decision is unbelievably lame.

Second, if I was Baffert, I would have already kicked him off POTN. The horse is a multiple Grade I-winner, and has won four graded stakes in a row. And Baffert is supposed to hold his breath while the regular jock decides if the horse is good enough?

Gomez should F himself.

This is a a TVG made for TV event. They no longer have any actual race content worth watching so they do this kind of crap. They are going the ESPN way of trying to show their own importance.

Jesus, why doesn't he take it a step further an have a town hall meeting in the paddock. This way he can field all the questions everyone is going to have.

I hope he finishes last.
