Default Paco Boy

I was going to start a thread saying the 2 best horses in Europe are running this weekend - Paco Boy and Prevsis, but decided I might look like a fool if Paco didnt win today at Sandown, but he won quite cosily under a 6lb Group 1 penalty from Dream Eater and Virtual. That should set him up nicely for the Lockinge.

Can't wait to see Prevsis roll tomorrow..

I have to hold my hands up here and say that I layed Paco Boy today. Not because I don't rate him. I think he's a serious horse, but I thought the trip would be against him today. I was much more convinced that he'd be more suited by dropping in trip than stepping up in trip. Especially at a stiff track like Sandown.

Richard Hughes held onto him for as long as he dared and won cosily, but I don't think there was anything left. I still believe seven is his optimum and I'd love to see him tried over six. Maybe the Golden Jubilee?

As for Presvis, I hope he wins. I used to look after his dam.

This could be a good confidence booster for Paco Boy - he won over a mile...of course, the second place horse hasn't won a race since September 2007...

Probably a good spot to get the eight furlong win under his belt.

God, I was disappointed in Paco today, he never travelled at all and when he got room, he didnt really show what he is capable of. Some people are suggesting he just doesnt get a mile, but I dont think he would have won today if the race was 7f or any other distance.

If he can get back to his best, it would be tremendous to see him drop down to 6f for something like the Golden Jubilee against the best sprinters around..

Brock, not sure if you managed to pick up a copy of the Post today, but I think Matt Williams summed Paco Boy up well. Basically he said that he is a brilliant horse at seven furlongs and is quite capable of winning over a mile here, but not in Gr1 company against solid milers.

When he comes up against genuine good milers, I think he will always struggle.

He suggested that he shouldn't run over a mile again until the Breeders' Cup. Which could be a fair shout.

I just think the conbination of a mile on rain softened ground just blunted his speed and turn of foot, which often wins him his races.
