When Charismatic won the Derby the top 10 or so finishers were seperated by less than the margin MTB won the Derby by.

He dominated that field and will be less than 8/1

Depends who runs, but I am guessing right around 8/1.
Mr Fantasy will be the heavy favorite if he goes.
Anyone know if This ones for Phil is running?

Mr Fantasy shouldn't be the heavy favorite in the Mike Lee let alone the Preakness.

Why wouldnt he be the heavy favorite coming off that Withers?
Hes pure speed and thats what people bet in the Preakness.
Who else would be favored over Mr Fantasy?

Take the Points is running but he will not be the favorite either.

Big Drama is a likely runner and could be the favorite. Musket Man's trainer was talking either Preakness or Belmont. Also Papa Clem's connections looked like they were considering the Preakness. I wouldn't be surprised if Pioneer in the Nile came back in the Preakness knowing the connections. I would think one of these 4 horses will be the Preakness favorite.

You had to figure it wouldn't be long before the two biggest misnomers in horse racing made an appearance.

#1- That speed horses fare well in the Preakness because Pimlico is a speed-favoring track.

#2- That closers have it bad at Pimlico because of the "tight turns."

Mr. Fantasy CRUISED on an easy lead in the Withers while the runner-up was stopped in traffic at the 1/4 pole. His only two-turn win came in a NY bred allowance race and he's certain to face at least some pace pressure in the Preakness if he goes.

The idea of Mr. Fantasy even being a 7/2 favorite is crazy to me. Saying he'll be a heavy favorite? I doubt it.

I didnt say speed horses fare well in the Preakness. I said people bet speed horses in the Preakness. And I think he will run better than you think in this spot. I hope you guys are right and he is nowhere near the heavy favorite.

Page 9 of special Courier Journal section in today's paper quotes Mullins as saying that at this point, he would have to say that IWR would miss the Preakness.

Take the Points, Big Drama, This ones for phil, Mr. Fantasy...maybe Imperial Council, Charitable Man or Hello Broadway...who knows. Doesn't look like many from the Derby will go, due to minor injuries, etc...

Usually the Derby horses finish in the money . Those that did not run in the derby usually don't factor . But that's no guarantee for the future in this new age of steroid free runners . Will Mine That Bird have to pair up his top to win ? Or will less be enough ?

The last time some horse was so lightly regarded after winning the Derby, Canonero came back and won the Preakness.....
