One Day At A Time, Thank You God
I debated on whether I should post this, but what the heck. Their are several of you folks on here who have, from your computer screens over the past several years, read about my battles with alcohol. After I lost my job the middle of last month I went on a real bender that ended this past Friday. I hardly ate each day, never more then a cup of coffee or two and then I was back with alcohol. Well, this came to a close on Friday.
I fell to my knees late Friday and asked God to come into my life. I asked him to free me of this hell I have lived for the past decade plus. I won't go into the details of why, lets just say I was very sick and knocking on Hell's door. Shortly after, my near death experience started to settle down. My heart rate slowed, the dry heaves stopped. I layed in that bed for hours crying, wondering why I put myself thru this hell. Saturday I was mostly bed ridden, just taking in water and a bowl of soup. Sunday, I went to a meeting for the first time on my own, not court ordered. I went to two on Monday and Tuesday. Going to one today. I've met several men who are just like me. I've made a promise to myself to drop to my knees every morning and ask God to keep me sober today, this day. I'll worry about tomorrow when it comes, all i've got right now is today. As time goes by, they tell me that my life will become more manageable. I will think less and less about alcohol and more about living life, that comes with time they say. I feel so good today. Hell, the lady at Tim Hortons that I see all the time asked me today if I changed my diet recently, that my complection looks so much better This is the next stage of my life and I just am gonna cherish each day as it comes. Thank God I'm alive and I have today. |

Good for you. What a tough thing to do. One meeting, one day at a time, for the rest of your life. But what a better life. Good luck, you have to do it on your own, but I'll be hoping for you.

whatever it takes. Also try getting into an excersise regimine. You'll begin looking foward to that more than a drink and it's a natural high w/o a hangover or liver disease.

Proud of you Curt. Please know you are not alone. I have been sober since December 19, 2007. I go to meetings 5-6 days a week. You are welcome to reach out to me if you need anything.

Gotta share this quick story. I went to the track for the first time today without drinking a lick. A little uncomfortable at first, thats to be expected. A couple sat down next to me and they both were drinking. I could actually smell the alcohol, and it was just a couple drinking bud light. Guess I smelled like that all the time.
Only other quick observation is that it was very interesting to watch people drink and observe their behavior, actions etc thru the night. While I was drinking hell I never actually observed what I did tonight. My senses are coming alive. |

Hang in there and just take "baby steps" for now. As you can see a lot on here are supporting you and hope that you succeed in your difficult time. P.S. Morty says to tell you that he feels bad for you and he wishes you the best and that you can make it through it all. |
