Writer/Director John Hughes Dead at 59

Legendary writer/director John Hughes died of a heart attack today at the age of 59 years old. He was one of my all-time favorites. He wrote the movies "Home Alone", "Pretty in Pink", and "National Lampoon's Vacation". He wrote and directed "The Breakfast Club", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Sixteen Candles", Planes, Trains & Automobiles", and "Uncle Buck".

He had an incredible string of hits during the 1980s and 1990s.

very sorry to hear!!! Too young at 59. Saw him often at local watering halls and if you didn't know who he was he was just a regular guy who bought more than his fair share of rounds. Always loyal to Chcago and especially the N. suburbs. RIP condolences to his family and good (best) friend 'Buzz' Kilman.

What a shame. His movies resonated well with most people. I still watch them over and over. Planes Trains and Automobiles is a classic.

What a talented comedic writer he was! Planes, Trains, and Automobile's is HYSTERICAL! We had a discount movie house not to far from where I lived growing up in Va., I saw "Sixteen Candles" 4 times in one weekend, it's still a favorite comedy of mine. John Hughes was making brilliant funny teen comedies, before alot of these no talent bums out there now were born! A great loss to Hollywood, but a very funny body of work to remember the great John Hughes.

I can watch his movies over and over and over again and not get tired of them. He was truly a comedic genius. I've seen practically all of those movies 7-8 times apiece. They just don't get old. If I'm flipping around the channels and any one of those movies are on, I almost always watch them. They're just as funny now as they were 20 years ago. Hughes was an incredible talent. RIP

Neil Cavuto kept on referring to him as "Director John Hughes". He never called him "writer". I wonder if Cavuto even knows that Hughes wrote every single one of those movies.

Very sad loss. He did an interview with the Onion not that long ago, it seems.
Chicago has lost a great supporter. RIP.

I actually left out a few of his movies. He wrote and directed "Weird Science" and "Curly Sue". He wrote "The Great Outdoors", "Some Kind of Wonderful", "She's Having a Baby" and "Career Oppurtunities".
