Default What does this mean?

In race 4 @ Mountaineer, the #2 horses sire in the Equibase PPs is listed as More than Ready or Langfuhr. What in the world does that mean?????????? Dont ever remember seeing that.

It means the mare was covered by two stallions in the same breeding season. Why would that happen? Because the mare came back into heat again after being bred to the first one and he wasn't available for some reason at the moment; so to make sure she has a foal the next year, she is bred to another stallion. Because mares carry for differing periods of time (11.5 months is only an average), it may not be possible to determine the actual sire by the foaling date; the Jockey Club requires both sires to be named, in order of covering. This actually happened not infrequently in the past; I can't find her now, but an important broodmare from the 1960s was 'by Tim Tam (who wasn't that fertile) or Tulyar'. (yes, I do love semi-colons)

HOWEVER, that was in the old days. Nowadays the JC does DNA testing that ought to be able to determine which sire is the correct one. Why this one's parentage has not been resolved I have no idea.

Very strange indeed.

BTW, I like the track announcer tonight.. Reminds me of an old movie star, but his name escapes me.

Was bred in Australia, which may have something procedurally to do with it. Thanks for the explanation.
