Default Lord of the Game

I see that Maggie Moss claimed him today.

He was a distant 2nd as the odds on favorite in a 5K claimer at Mountaineer.

This gelded full brother to Haskell winner and Ky Derby 2nd Bluegrass Cat won 8 of 18 career races and made over 500K. Also was a multiple Graded Stakes winner.

I would think Maggie claimed him to retire him.

That would be a very classy move if that was her motivation here. After listening to her one afternoon tell us about what a fine citizen Mr Dutrow is when he got caught blantantly fabricating workouts I thought her a shrew but perhaps there is a decent streak somewhere in Momma Moss....

Wow, that is awesome of her if it holds true. While I can't stand her defense of Assmussen, this I really respect.

I know this and I'll leave it at this, the connections WOULD NOT sell prior to this race at an offer of equal to the claim price, and win or lose, it was told to me that this was supposedly his last race.

I just requested her to be my friend on Facebook, and asked her what the deal is.....

Even though she defends some alchemist trainers ... she seems pretty damn cool and I love that she has the same last name as the greatest NFL football player to ever live.

She just claimed a horse "Tour of the Cat" from Jacobson at Presque Isle Downs for some bloggers on another site and got him retired to Old Friends in Kentucy. He was 10yo, multple stakes winner with earnings of over $1 million.
Jacobson raced him in NY until the vets scratched him. Took him to Finger Lakes where he was the favorite to race and the vet scratched him before the race saying he was unfit to race. "“His left front tendon was swelled, hot and sore to the touch,” Ohlinger said. “He was too thin, and his muscle condition didn’t look like he was in racehorse condition. It was a disservice to the horse, the rider and the other riders to let him run.”

Jocobson said “I believed he was in good condition, and had some races left,” and sent him to race at Presque Isle Downs. Moss tried to give him the claiming price before the race but he raced the horse anyway. Moss claimed him and she worked out a retirement at Old Friends.

Jacobson and others like him should be monitored very closely.

i don't admire her taste in humans, but i sure like her taste in horses! good for them-she's doing what many should do, give something back to a few of these horses.

From Alex Brown's Site. this is a message from Maggi regarding Lord of the Game's Claim. She is trying to get Summer Book next. I agree regarding her support of the Dutrow's of the game but this says alot about her heart.

" 40580.20 in reply to 40580.19

just got home talked to trainer at mountaineer lord of the game is in his stall and very very happy says hes gorgeous - and kind and grateful

thank u all - ill see how he is in the next two days hes so gorgeous and kind , and if he is serviceable sound we all need to decide where he should go and how to now get him to his new home we need to get summer book out of there

he too deserves the same fate

thank you all

maggi"

Jacobson also had a horse, Unigold, who he was running at tracks outside NY for 5K. Attempts were made to buy him for the claim price but he refused stating he was gonna win next time. Unigold broke down and was euthanized on the track about a hundred yards into that next race.

He was entered in a cheap claimer at Delaware and then was scratched. He deserves a good home as well, if he can't return the horse he used too be..

"I don't make a habit of it, but I do have the ability to claim horses that other people would like to retire," Moss said. "Name horses, famous horses, and horses that aren't so famous. My goal is to keep bringing attention to this and have other breeders and owners step up. You can't save them all, but if one or two people step up, it makes all the difference. WinStar really stepped up to the plate on this horse. I wish more horses were as wanted as him."
