Default AP Warrior

I don't get this horse - talk about a Jekyll/Hyde personality. I know AP Indy has sired some nice grass horses, but I truly believed Warrior's entry in the La Jolla was a desperation move. Just when it looked like he'd turned a corner in the San Felipe, he runs terribly in his next few starts. This horse has talent, but most of the time he just doesn't show up. It sounds like he was very game when hooked tonight, though. I hope grass will make him more consistent, although I tend to doubt it. Not a bad year for colts by Indy out of Quiet American mares

I think its obvious what the deal is with him. I saw the race and boy was he game.
Wanna know what his deal is? I think its pretty simple. I don't care who his mommy and daddy are, he simply doesnt wanna go farther than a mile and a sixteenth, and really hes best to a mile. He has a nice cruising speed, and a little burst, but he doesnt have the stamina to go any farther.

You could be right, Oracle. If so, then he'll be ok on grass, because there are lots of nice middle distance turf races for him.....now and as an older horse. He's game when he wants to be - I really was impressed with his Santa Anita Derby and I believed he'd never have let Point Determined by in the San Felipe if they had gone around again.

Just got home and i'm glad to see the results since he was the single in the pick 4 for me. From the time of the race it looks like he had a monster run. I'll have to check the video later.

I think Oracle must be right. He is an AP Indy so it seems like he should be able to run all day. And maybe he IS able to do that and just doen't want to do it. I haven't seen the race but it seems ike it was a gutsy win. ESPN.com has a nice picture of the finish.

I think that pedigrees have fooled many trainers and owners into thinking that a horse is something that he is not. Cigar would be a prime example. Ap Warrior has speed, tons of ability, and heart. He just doesn't wanna go 9 panels or farther. Sometimes you just have to look at a horse and decide that he is what he is, not what he should be or what you want him to be.
This is a very nice horse, and if kept within his distance limitations surely has many graded stakes race wins in his future.

The closing fractions were insane - 5 and change? This time, AP closed from well off the pace -they can't make up their mind what to do with this horse. Press the pace? Be the pace? Lag off the pace? I say pick a style and stick with it.....of course, if APW simply makes up his own mind as to how he'll run that day, I guess there's nothing the jock can do.
