Default Longchamp to close for revamp after 2012 Arc

FRANCE GALOP has revealed details of the long-mooted redevelopment of Longchamp, which will include an all-weather circuit.

The project, the cost of which is estimated at between €55 million and €75 million (£50m-£68m) will start in 2011 with the selection of an architect. The track will then be closed after the running of the 2012 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for 20 months.

An alternative venue for the Arc while Longchamp is closed is Chantilly, not only the most picturesque track in France but also state -of-the art after several years of investment.

That's a damn shame. Longchamp has the finest arrangement/best usage of courses on it's acreage. Maisons-Laffitte would have been a much better choice for an AW track.

You think Sheppard would give Cloudy's Knight a shot jumping?

I don't think so. He's still doing so well on the flat. As long as races are written for him for $$$ at 1 1/2+, he'll be a force and Sheppard knows how to keep these old fellas going. Mixed Up at 10 yrs old, will probably be HOY in the steeplechase division.

Also, there's not enough money on the table for him as a 'chaser. For that reason alone, I would think the owner would want to keep him on the flat.
