Default Lava Man - 8/5 Fav

Next on the morning line at 3-1 is the 2005 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner and hero of the recent San Diego Handicap (gr. II) Giacomo. Magnum is 5-1; Perfect Drift, 6-1; Super Frolic, 8-1; Good Reward, 10-1; Preachinatthebar, 12-1, and Top This and That, 20-1.

You like a horse who couldnt hold off Giacomo? How is he ever going to get in front of Lava Man at any point in this race? I dont see it and think hes the worse bet on the board. I dont care what his odds are. I have a strong feeling this horse finishes last in this field.

I love him because he's by one of my fave horses... Silver Charm.

I don't think he has a legit shot in this field (I like Perfect Drift here), but I love the horse nonetheless.

I almost hope he blows by everyone in this field just so I can bring this topic up to rub in your face. (But, it probably won't happen.)

Women should never say the word "blows" in any post.

We can no longer make fun of Giacomo after his last win. He still is a Kentucky Derby winner and that commands respect. His trainer thinks he's ready to roll.

I like Magnum in here. I dont see anyone else as being fast enough to beat lava man.

Doesn't look like a very good betting race to me. Lava man will be 4/5 or so and justafiably so....

Maybe work out some tri's.

Randall said it on a different thread, but I agree with him...Good Reward.
I'm betting against LM. PD might "hang" on for 3rd.

I think Giacomo may well be the danger here! Hard to go against Lava Man but if he's beaten, I think Giacomo could be the one! We should know after the half!

The race really has me going to the same ending, if they couldn't bet Lava Man when he gave them weight how can they beat him when they all carry the same 124lbs.

Why do you hope he will win when you crawfished and said he probably wouldnt? I liked him too when he ran at LS and couldnt beat Magnum.

It happened last year in this race. Although his HGC race was very gutty and he had a poor start, it may be a signal that he is following the pattern he did last year at this time. I love the Lava Man, but I sure won't bet him at odds on. He is not in LA.

shug is going all the way to del mar, which is completely out of character for him. good reward might be worth a look or two.

Good Reward has more travel miles than Bob Baffert.

Last year Surf Cat was in the race and, with Super Frolic, pressed Lava Man through a half in :45.90 and 6f in 1:10.35. Is there anybody in this field who is going to try to cook Lava Man this year? Remember, the 'rabbits' finished far back, while Lava Man hung on to be third by less than a length. LM was so exhausted by this effort that he had to be vanned off the track. It wasn't the time of year that cause LM's defeat, it was the pace scenario.

You don't have a heart if you aren't rooting for Lava Man ... an honest, hard-hitting, professional race horse.

Giacomo at 3-1 is the biggest sucker bet in history.

Good Reward is the best value at 10-1 or more.

Default Somebody sell me on Good Reward

Looks Ok on paper, but his last win was over such juggernauts as Artie Shiller and Relaxed Gesture (who both were recently embarassed chalks). I'm really just comming around to paying more attention to horses, but I think "P Diddy" has a good chance. He ran a pretty solid race against Suave (who I think would mop all these). Maybe he's due. Lava Man looks to be the best, but if you are trying to beat him, why not Perfect Drift?
