They're running The Usual Q.T. in a Grade 3? Didn't that one just win a Grade 1?

I was surprised by this too. He's supposed to beat these horses with anything close to what he's done in his last two and he was pretty solid in the Hollywood Derby but things went his way.

The fact that Acclamation hung around for a piece showed that pace dominated the race and he was there the entire way. In his last two the circumstances have worked in his favor and this race looks like it's going to have a hot pace so he could find himself a bit too far off it and then who knows what happens.

That Grade 1 he won (Hollywood Derby) was more like a Grade 3, and this race is more like a 75K allowance race. He'll be 1/2 in here.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. The Hollywood Derby field was pretty stout, I'm not sure who you think was missing but the winner was coming off a GII win, the runner-up has multiple graded stakes wins this year, the 4th placed horse won a G3 at Saratoga and placed in a Grade II, the 5th place horse was GS placed, the 6th place finisher was a Grade II winner, the 7th place finisher was a two-time Grade I winner (the only two Grade I races for 3YO on turf in this country prior to the HOL Derby), the 8th place horse missed by a head in the GI Secretariat, the 9th place horse was G2 placed, and the 10th place horse was Grade 2 placed and a Grade 3 winner.

Hip to be square..lol bad..

Look at Papa Clem what the f is he doing in here? Apparently winning an allowance race and building him back up after the layoff isn't as entertaining as getting crushed

I like cheesy jokes.

No doubt, Papa and Eddie are running neck and neck for the worst managed award.

Neither were really ever that talented , so no big deal
There are far more talented horses that were mis-managed!

Santa Anita has shot themselves in the foot once again with the creation of the Sir Beaufort. It allows the better turf 3yos to avoid older horses at least one more time when the fairly important San Gabriel at 9f is sitting right there a couple of days later. Predictably, this year's edition will attract 6 horses if its lucky...as it has ever since they slapped a graded ranking on the Sir Beaufort.

The sad part is, with the switch to synthetics, the Sir Beaufort can also take away from the Malibu. Probably 75% of the horses nominated were nominated to both. For example, Massone would be right at home in the Malibu.
