Default Philly... why?

I'm so tired of writing Philly on the angels thread.

B.B. Jazz , Sullivans Rainbow, Sunday Shapeup, Greatest Passion, Dime Box...

We're 18 days into the year and there might be more as there are a few I have heard nothing about. Isn't this a bit much?

What's going on? Why Philly?

Can anyone explain this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a count... I know the name and that it's notorious but honestly I don't know all that much.

Can you enlighten me when you have time?

It's hard to figure. It's not like they aren't use to the kind of weather they've been happening. Was it last year that Penn National had a lot breakdowns in the winter?

I watch both tracks daily as well as several others..I think it has as much to do with the stock and poor decision making of the trainers/vets as it does the tracks maintainence levels. Horses seem to breakdown a lot more at Penn Nat, although admittedly I don't have any factual stats to back up my overall opinion. I see a good 2 to 4 horses a week.. Penn has 1200 horses on the grounds and at least 400 should have other careers..

You could be right. I just don't remember The PHA having this many breakdowns before.

because every trainer in the country knows the purses are very high for the
talent pool..thus taking a shot in a bad economy with a past glory horse or one that isnt all there..but people are broke.. run em. sad but true

Default Purses

Its the purses
Its the purses
Its the purses

I'm ecstatic to be running at Phila Park with the purses and level of competition. I think we are on track with the program of wintering in Phila and Ocala to run at Tampa and then bring the FLorida horses back to KY and then Arlington. Phila is a good full year option for many of the horses with the ability to ship to NJ, Delaware and NY.

Also, gives us options if a horse does not like the poly at AP in the Summer to run at Phila.

This would be a good example track to scrape aside the cushion, and look at the base.
