Default These Times Will Test You / my opinion

Those of you who have an unequivocal love affair with Horse Racing might find yourself today asking the same questions you asked yourself on that day in May when Barbaro broke down, is it really worth it? Why should I follow a sport like this? Why should I enjoy Horse Racing when incidents like this are inevitable? I asked myself the same questions when I stopped by Beulah Park on that cold day, not knowing as we pulled into the parking lot that not 15 minutes earlier a young promising Jockey with the world at his fingertips was snatched off this earth and from his family and friends.

I stepped away from the Auto Racing world on more then one occasion, swearing it off as I had been witness to more then one tragic accident. But I keep coming back. Why? Because it is in my blood. It is a part of who I am, and I refuse to let an accident take that away. Just as Horse Racing has become a part of who I am, albeit in just 3 short years. I refuse to give in to the inherit dangers, meanwhile those whom are risking life and limb continue on in part for our benefit.

Their will be a Horse Race tomorrow. Jockey's will get the call, riders up. Trainers will be up at some god forsaken hour, just another day at the office.

Driving a car on a highway is a dangerous activity, but we continue on. Each and every one of us partake in activities that could kill us, even something as trivial as taking a shower.

Don't let all these bad incidents get you down. Appreciate what you have, and what Horses like Lost In The Fog and Saint Liam have done for the sport. They have something special, they have a legacy no doubt. Then their is the fighter in Barbaro, no doubt fighting the good fight. So keep your head up all you Horse lovers.

Curt

Excellent post and sums up my opinion as well.

Very tough week, but just like it is in the blood of the Thoroughbred to run, it is in my blood to watch.

Cheers to all and have a good Travers
