![]() Damn, the more i look at the weather the more depressing it becomes but now there is word that it may actually be really bad on Sat. Has a Derby ever been cancelled due to weather? i know that if its lighting out they will call almost all sporting events but what about this? Sorry if its a stupid question but i was just wondering b/c the thought of the whole day and the great card being run in a friggin monsoon is very depressing.

![]() There's a 60% chance of rain, not a hurricane. I think the chances of them cancelling this Derby are about as good as the chances of Hank Goldberg riding the winner.

Remember back to 2007. It was very similar to this week. Oaks day was a flooding. I remember the races being delayed for like an hour after Rags to Riches won the Oaks. Then more rain on derby day up til about 2 hours before the Derby when Street Sense won on a FAST TRACK. Just be thankful they don't have an ALL-WEATHER TRACK like Santa Anita... ![]() |

![]() I live in lville and today is great but this is the forecast that one of the local guys put out and is what got me wondering
by Jamie Martin WHAS11.com Posted on April 28, 2010 at 12:49 AM Updated today at 7:37 AM Today: Mostly sunny and warmer, high 68. Tonight: Mostly clear, low 49. Pegasus Parade: Mostly sunny, breezy in the evening, high 78. Oaks Day: Clouds building, 30% showers/storms later in the afternoon. Derby Day: Mostly cloudy, 70% showers/storms. High pressure will build into the area Wednesday-Thursday, providing us with sunshine and warmer temps. An approaching cold front will arrive Friday afternoon with showers/storms after 3pm. This front looks like it will stall out right over us through the weekend. Several waves of energy will ride the front Friday night-Sunday. Right now Derby looks stormy with locally heavy rain and strong/severe storms with a repeat on Sunday. The front finally pushes south by Monday morning with clearing skies and cooler temperatures. "several waves of energy will ride the front" what the heck does that mean? I dont know it jsut sounds friggin awful also the stuff about the strong severe winds dont sound like a lot of fun |

![]() Man I think about this all the time but didnt know SA did this. How hard would it be for a track to install some poles around the race course and attach some tarps to it and just pull them out when there is weather threatening big races? I really dont think it would be that hard. They could save turf races by doing this also. I think tracks should look into this.

![]() Shoot, they dont even need poles, just roll out the damn tarp like they do at baseball games.

![]() If they didn't cancel it in '04 they won't cancel it this year. That track was a horrible mess.

![]() I think that Lion Heart was carried around by that track. Of course, I always hated him, so that might have something to do with it.
The only good thing Lion Heart did in his entire career was get Joe Bravo his only Haskell. NT |

![]() Wasn't it last year they had a flood, and moved horses out of CD? I think Simon had to move to higher ground.
I'm wondering about Friday's turf races. |

![]() The forecast isn't that ominous. The '07 and '08 Oaks were some of the worst downpours I've ever been in and the track held up just fine...
