It wasn't posted and I must admit that Chinook's Pass was the most athletic sprinter I ever saw race at Santa Anita. I watched the gate open and he went to his knee'sin front and he got up and still had the lead by the first call.

I am amazed at the number of racing fans that never heard of "Chinook's Pass". #1 in my book.

I saw Chinook Pass at Longacres in 1991 on Longacres Mile day, they had turned him into a dressage horse, he was beautiful as he made his moves in front of the winner's circle. I'm sure Jon White will have lots of great memories of him on the show.

RIP good boy.

All I can say is when I go, I hope I land in the same place all these wonderful horses go to. Now that would be heaven.

"Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr., who rode Chinook Pass to seven stakes victories, once paid the gelding the highest possible praise. “Affirmed (1978 Triple Crown winner) was the best horse I ever rode, but Chinook Pass was the fastest,” Pincay said."

Last year i hosted the Railbird Rally on Longacres Mile Day which is basically a big tailgate party. and I was interviewing laffit pincay and he echoed those statements about Chinook being the fastest horse. And then as we were finishing up with Laffit, Chinook came in and joined the party! even at 30 years old he had a presence about him.

here is him setting a world record in the owners handicap

Smoked 'em! Thanks for posting those race videos. There is a "related" video to the right on youtube of Chinook's 30th birthday greetings. Great stuff.
