Default Best Australian Jockeys

Thought this would be fun, scraped together this list off the cuff:

1. Nash Rawiller - Great judge of pace, smartest jock down under, always seems to make the right moves in the body of races
2. Hugh Bowman - Strongest finisher, places horses in right positions to succeed
3. Luke Nolan - When teamed with Moody, extremely dangerous
4. Glen Boss - In stayers races, he is one of the best
5. Darren Beadman - Only put him in the 5 spot due to him riding in Hong Kong presently, but anyone that knows Aussie racing the guy is a legend

BRETT PREBBLE!

edit - I'm really bad at lists like this CSC but wondering... Damien and Corey weren't on your list. How do you rate them?

Great question why did I leave off guys like Corey, Damien or C Williams, M Rodd, K McEvoy, N Hall?

Too many good riders, not enough space. I based alot of my own betting experiences on this list, mind you it was off the cuff. Williams could easily have made my top 5 and considering that Beadman rides mostly in HK right now and only returns to Australia on the bigger meet days maybe he should have.

Your fav Prebble would have bumped someone out if he too rode regularily in Australia. None of these guys are bad you mentioned, however without giving away too many betting strategies I managed to dig up some info on Brown that basically illustrated he was a poor flat profit/loss rider. From my exp it would seem to be the case.

Wonder what Idol, No Chance, and Ed think of my thoughts, they are the experts.

Hardly an expert, but I kinda agree with your selections.

Nash is excellent - a jockey you can trust, and will rarely get beaten through jockey error.

Hugh - a fantastic jockey, liked him when he rode in England and a true professional.

Luke - Once again, a very honest jockey, keeps himself to himself and works hard and can't really fault him

Glen - Can't stand him, arrongant and soft. He gave So You Think a great ride in last years cox plate, but also seen him give many shockers. Personally I wouldn't have him on any of my horses.

Out of the others,I really rate Blake Shinn and Craig Newitt. Both give 100% and seem very intelligent jockeys. Michael Rodd wouldn't be too far behind them.

One jockey who doesn't get the recognition he deserves, but always gives 110% and works really hard is a guy named Matt Pumpa. Very underrated, and I'd happily put him up on any horse. He will go anywhere for a ride and is as honest as they come. A name to watch out for.

Jockeys I wouldn't ever use:
Danny Nikolic
Nick Hall
Dean Holland
Steve Arnold
Craig Williams

Mainly down to either their arrongance or how they think they are riding Shergar, no matter what they are on!

Can I have more of a detailed reason for this one?

Really just curious. I think it's the first time I've heard anyone knock him.

All silliness aside, what do you think about Brett?

I know were talking jocks from down under on this thread but you all... if you don't follow HK?

Matthew Chadwick.

That's a name you need to know.

Craig is someone I first knew about when he was in the UK and a lot of trainers got fed up with him telling them what to do, and re saddling horses at the barriers etc (as if the trainer hadn't saddled a horse before). Mick Channon got sick of him and basically sacked him I believe.

At first I thought that was just something he did over there just to make sure, but I asked a few people over here what they thought of him, and many of the responses were very similar to what I said above. Very arrogant and self centred. He had a fall out with David Hayes too, less than a year ago.

The spread of the toad

Cane toads were introduced into Australia in 1935 in an attempt to control pest beetles in the sugar cane industry. They were unsuccessful in their control efforts, but very successful at invading the ecosystems of Australia’s north. Cane toads were originally released in Gordonvale in Queensland, but have spread west and south to now cover 1/3 of Australia.
Ecologists warn that, unless stopped, cane toads will colonise Perth. They may even infest areas as far south as Margaret River and Esperance.
