Default Finally figuring out the KY Derby 11

I know it way to early to be talking about this, however it seems that owners and trainers have finally figured something out. Run your 2yr olds early and often-get graded earnings and relax at the end

Delta Jackpot had 19 Pre Entries for a field of 10

KY Jockey Club has Rogue Romance(Who ran 3rd last in Juvy) and Astrology going so far

Remsen has To Honor and Serve and Fort Hughes pointed there

Repole and Pletcher are gonna go Hutcheson,Wood, and Derby with Uncle Mo

We might finally get a Derby where 16-18 horses deserve to be there instead of the usual 10 deserve to be there,3 or 4 are a polycrap horse,3 or 4 are sprinters and 2 or 3 are turf horses.

My only question is do we see Biondetti,Frankel and Pathfork in the Derby or not?

Rogue Romance will probably make the starting gate based on that third in the Juvy alone, no?

Only 1 two turn prep for Mo? Hmmm.

Fort Hughes is not running in the Remsen.

The worst thing that could have happened was Todd Pletcher winning the Derby with a horse who had two preps. Next he'll just narrow it down to one then either him or Dutrow will just bring them in fresh off the Juvenile.

Got me just telling u what I heard

Pletcher said rest in Florida one race(most likely Hutcheson) Don't forget Stay Thirsty gotta win 1 or 2 of these FL races,I highly doubt Repole will want them racing each other all winter. Then since Repole is a NY guy the Wood is logical.

Ya gotta think Rogue Romance is already in but that is why I am saying they are finally learning. Instead of saying,3rd place means he is in. McPeek is thinking,he just ran a 3rd on this track lets get him some more graded earnings so we can go easy on him later.

Whats up with the Euro's tho? Biondetti got some graded earnings from the Juvy. Do they have to race some here in America or?

You'll inevitably hear a lot about Uncle Mo "not having a classic distance pedigree" ... Indian Charlie still holds the stakes record in the Santa Anita Derby - he was 3rd in the Ky Derby and came out of the race with a career ending injury. Dam sire Arch won the Super Derby at 10fs and is the sire of Blame.

Indian Blessing was a sprinter/miler - but she was out of a very quick Flying Chevron sprinter named Shameful. People assume IC throws sprinters - he doesn't.

I think Uncle Mo actually has an excellent distance pedigree for such an extremely brilliant 2yo - however, Indian Charlie and Arch were both pretty fragile horses who each only made a handful of starts in their career.

In Fact, the last time the Breeders Cup was held at Churchill prior to this year - the two favorites in the Breeders Cup Distaff were Fleet Indian (by Indian Charlie) and Pine Island (by Arch) ... both of them broke down during the running of the race. Pine Island was euthanized from her injury that day - I believe Fleet Indian survived.

Here are 10 of the 19 possibles for the Delta Jackpot which is 1 million(Whoever wins and comes in 2nd unless they get injured or sold are pretty much assured a spot in the Derby)

Blue Laser
Bug Juice
Classic Legacy
Gourmet Dinner
Aces N Kings
Dreamsrunwild
Ribo Bibo
Sweet Ducky
Bandbox
Halo's Thunder

9 horses won't get in but assume this is the 10 they really want since these are names Delta Downs announces

Fragile and fast is seemingly how we breed horses in general....Getting 9 panels on SA dirt is hardly the tell on being able to get a distance. Remember, Came Home could get 10 furlongs out west...not so much in the east.

With Rogue Romance now pointed to the Ky Jockey Club, I guess this is where Halo's Thunder will start for McPeek.

I put $50 on Halo's Thunder at Wynn at 300-1 on Monday 11/8/10. Although, Uncle Mo might look like a gift at 15-1 now come Derby time.

Winning the Delta Jackpot means you can get into the Derby, if you're healthy and good enough 6 months later in May. Most often times, this is not the case with horses exiting this race. Although this year, Bandbox is at least a little intriguing.

She survived- sold for $3.9 million at KEENOV07 and her first baby sold for over $2 million.

Yeah, the talking heads who think IC throws sprinters are beyond lame.

IC could run all day, as could Arch.

How anyone could watch Mo run and not think he can't get 10f in six months is beyond me. Whether he'll still be in training in six months, that's the pertinent question.

I'm very dubious of his longterm potential because of this, and because brilliant, precocious horses never hold on until then. It's not his pedigree that's going to kill him, it's that he'll be used up by then.
