Default Dream Maestro

His lifetime record on fast dirt tracks now stands at 28-1-13-6 with his 2nd place finish at 26/1 in the Fred Hooper today.

It marks the 3rd time in the last six races when he's passed horses to gain a lead in deep stretch - only to blow it. He's 14-0-6-2 this year - 12-1-5-3 last year.

What was so noteworthy about todays race was the fact that the eventual winner was a horse stretching out to 9fs from a 6f wire to wire win last out. That horse went out - won a pace battle - got put away and passed by Dream Maestro ... until the shadow of the wire when DM pulled himself up just enough to miss ... and even refused to go by the winner in an extremely unspirited gallop-out.

And here come the Headlines:

From DRF: Tackleberry shows true grit reaching wire first in Fred Hooper Handicap

Quote:
Stretching out beyond a mile for the first time in his career, Tackleberry set a contested pace, then fought back bravely when headed by 25-1 Dream Maestro at midstretch to post a game nose triumph in Saturday’s $100,000 Fred. W. Hooper Handicap. Mambo Meister, the 8-5 favorite, finished another three lengths farther back in the Grade 3 stakes at Calder
From Bloodhorse: Tackleberry Determined Hooper 'Cap Winner

Quote:
Tackleberry, who set the pace but relinquished his lead to longshot Dream Maestro, fought back along the rail in deep stretch and nipped his rival by a nose in a thrilling finish of the $100,000 Fred W. Hooper Handicap (gr. III) Dec. 11 at Calder Casino & Race Course
No story gives Dream Maestro even a morsel of credit for refusing or mentions anything of his past.

A match race with Giant Oak is in order.
