Default Illinois legalizes civil unions

Congrats to those that should be able to share a life with the person they love.

I think every state and the Fed should legalize civil unions and the benefits that go along with it.

For straight and gay couples.

If you are a religious couple and want to be "married" under God, than have your civil union done in a church and get a marriage certificate.

If you just love your partner and plan on being with them forever & want the financial benefits, get a civil union!

We need to seperate the word "marriage" and federal / state benefits from each other.

IMO a civil union should be equal to common law marriage for both straights and gays. In the same way marriage should also be the same while upholding various religions’ individual choices whether or not to marry a couple. ie A gay Episcopal marriage should be equal to a straight Catholic marriage.

Kind of similar to Obamacare in that no one shall be forced to participate and at the same time those who choose to participate will not be prevented from doing so provided those who opt out are not forced to contribute or partake. In addition all unions whether they be hotel workers or auto workers will be expected to do the same as the churches above. Opt in or out. It’s the left and right way!
