Default 2/5: Aqueduct (P4); Gulfstream (2nd-11th); Santa Anita (4th; P4)

Had all the pieces somewhere Friday in the Aqueduct double carryover try, but had 2 opinions doom the sextet ticket and the P4 as well... The first mistake was thinking too highly of single try Return to Hurstland in the 5th, as equally capable No Imagination ('Next Best' second tab) won and the Zito trainee checked in 4th. The second misstep came minutes later when Super Add Soda Kaps wired the 6th at 9-1. Multi-race attempts dead. I did catch a $73 triple in the 7th, but the afternoon was already on its' way to being a 'second guess' kind of day. Hope you did OK as there's a great day of racing ahead Saturday!

9: 4

6x6x2x1 = $72

GULFSTREAM

POST-SCRATCHES

2nd: MSW, F&M-4+, 1m-Outer Turf (P4, P3, DD, Super)

Unlike some 4+ MSW's, this is a group of nice fillies, many well-pedigreed, that have been slow getting to the races..

Best Value: #2 Afleeting Lady 6-1 11th
Next Best: #4 Dixie's Sandals 4-1 5th
Exotics Use: #11 Krismas Prospect 10-1 2nd
Super Add: #12 Rockettes Escapade 7-2 3rd

3rd: ALW/N1X, 3yo, 9f (P3, DD, Super)

One of those 'big day' sophomore ALW's that will produce a Fountain starter or two next month..

Most Likely: #1 Casper's Touch 3-1 2nd
Next Best: #6 Shackleford 5-2 WON ($11.20)
Best Value: #2 El Grayling 4-1 3rd
Super Add: #5 Fort Larned 6-1 5th

$1 Exacta (6-1) Paid $12.50
$1 Trifecta (6-1-2) Paid $49.10

4th: CLM, 4+, 1m-Inner Turf (P3, DD, Super)

Most Likely: #4 Lemon Spice 7-2 WON ($5.20)
Best Value: #9 More Than Steady 12-1 5th
Next Best: #10 Pointing North 6-1 2nd
Super Add: #11 Passager 6-1 3rd

$1 Exacta (4-10) Paid $17.30
$1 Trifecta (4-10-11) Paid $60.60

5th: OC/N2X, 4+, 7f (P3, DD, Super)

Nice.. If healthy and able to stay that way, the handicap/sprint crowd will be augmented nicely by 6yo Biker Boy and 4yo Yawanna Twist..

Most Likely: #3 Yawanna Twist 2-1 WON ($3.60)
Best Value: #7 I Know Why 10-1 6th
Next Best: #8 Biker Boy 3-1 7th
Super Add: #6 Moonport 10-1 5th

<$50 P4 Play:

2: 2-4-11-12
3: 1-6
4: 4-9-10-11
5: 3-7-8

4x2x4x3 = 96 x .50 = $48

6th: ALW/N1X, 3yo, 1m-Inner Turf (P6, P3, DD, Super)

Most Likely: #7 Queensplatekitten 4-1 WON ($4.40)

7th: 64th Suwannee River (G3), F&M-4+, 9f-Outer Turf (P5, P3, DD, Super)

Wanted Project Rose Friday in an easier spot, so if Sheppard thinks she's competitive here, it's good enough for me..

Best Value: #8 Project Rose 12-1 8th
Next Best: #3 Cherokee Queen 4-1 WON ($11.00)
Exotics Use: #1 Never Retreat 3-1 2nd
Super Add: #7 Musical Rain 12-1 5th

8th: MSW, 3yo, 7f (P4, P3, DD, Super)

What exactly are you supposed to do with this event? Seven first time starters, and well-bred/well meant types at that, with several serious looking sophs that have already been out. This race has no business being shoved into the P5/P6 sequence, and should have been placed as the 2nd race of the day to be fair to players. You at least get to watch the board for action hints to help start your late P4. Good luck..

Best Value: #5 Our Noble Heart 12-1: Majesticperfection sib.. 5th
Next Best: #3 Kangaroo 6-1: Faced nice ones as juvy.. 3rd
Exotics Use: #12 Cal Nation 7-2: Half to Bluegrass Cat by DistHumor.. WON ($4.60)
Super Add: #7 Occelli 4-1: By Bernardini and half to nice Wild Fit.. 8th

NOTE: How deep is this group? Haven't even mentioned sons of outstanding race fillies Madcap Escapade (#6 California SCRATCHED) and Victory U.S.A. (#1 Punster)! And #14 (AE) Ninja Blade, a half to MGSW My Jen, would be a big threat if he got in..

9th: 26th Gulfstream Park Turf H. (G1), 4+, 9f-Outer Turf (P3, DD, Super)

Going to hope that pace battle between Little Mike & Twilight Meteor and perhaps another eager player creates collapse scenario for host of prices behind highly likely 'Hastings'..

Most Likely: #8 Battle of Hastings 5-2 4th
Best Value: #3 Justaroundmidnight 10-1 8th
Next Best: #5 Teaks North 12-1 WON ($52.60)
Super Add: #2 Smart Bid 6-1 2nd

$1 Pick 3 (3/12/5) Paid $647.60

10th: 53rd Donn H. (G1), 4+, 9f (DD, Super)

Signature race of the stand for elders, and an excellent assembly..

Most Likely: #6 Fly Down 5-2 5th
Best Value: #1 I Want Revenge 6-1 4th
Next Best: #4 Giant Oak 6-1 WON ($16.80)
Super Add: #9 Ron the Greek 15-1 6th

11th: MSW, 4+, 6.5f (Super)

Most Likely: #9 Wear the Crown 9-5 WON ($3.20)
Best Value: #3 Falaah 6-1 3rd
Next Best: #5 Macarthur Causeway 8-1 2nd
Exotics Use: #6 Blimey 3-1 -th
Super Add: #1 Gothics Peak 12-1 4th

<$75 P5 Play:

7: 1-3-8
8: 3-5-7-12
9: 3-5-8
10: 1-6
11: 3-9

3x4x3x2x2 = 144 x .50 = $72

.50 CENT Pick 5 (3-6/10/11/12/13/14/15-5-4-4/9) 4 Correct Paid: $21.05 x 2 = $42.10

<$80/<$40 P4 Plays:

8: 3-5-7-12
9: 2-3-5-8
10: 1-6
11: 3-9 (1-5-6)

Narrow: 4x4x2x2 = 64 x .50 = $32
Wide: 4x4x2x5 = 160 x .50 = $80

SANTA ANITA

POST-SCRATCHES

4th: 29th Las Virgenes (G1), 3yo-F, 1m (P3, DD, Super)

Nice cast even with the SCR of #2 Bluegrass Chatter. Baffert's Plum Pretty is the interesting upset candidate as she should relish the 2 turns and may get forgotten on the board. And you can bet that Martin Garcia is going to want to get into BB's good graces ASAP..

Most Likely: #6 Turbulent Descent 4-5 2nd
Best Value: #1 Plum Pretty 8-1 3rd
Next Best: #7 Zazu 9-2 WON ($10.00)
Super Add: #4 California Nectar 4-1 6th

Most Likely: #8 Vikkilee 4-1 3rd
Best Value: #9 Samba School 8-1 WON ($9.20)
Exotics Use: #11 Precious Union 10-1 7th
Super Add: #2 Entabeni 6-1 4th

8th: Thunder Road H. (G3), 4+, 1m-Turf (P3, DD, Super)

Most Likely: #9 Victor's Cry 3-1 3rd
Next Best: #8 Colgan's Chip 7-2 7th
Exotics Use: #4 Proudinsky 7-2 2nd
Super Add: #7 Skyrush 20-1 8th

9th: 64th Strub (G2), 4yo, 9f (DD, Super)

As discussed yesterday with Brad Free & Hammer on ATR, you won't be viewed as a heretic if you choose to go against Twirling Candy in this spot. While it isn't attempted every year, only 7 horses that won the Malibu have gone on to win the Strub, (6 swept the 3 race series), and the list is a bit of a Who's Who: Determine, Round Table, Hillsdale, Ancient Title, Spectacular Bid, Precisionist, Diazo, Mizzen Mast and Rock Hard Ten. In other words, it takes a real racehorse to win the front (7f) and back ends (9f) of this well-regarded series..

Most Likely: #3 Twirling Candy 1-1 WON ($)
Best Value: #1 Honor the Deputy 8-1 6th
Next Best: #8 Oilisblackgold 8-1 5th
Super Add: #7 Do It All 8-1 7th

10th: Cal-OC/N1X, 4+, 1m-Turf (Super, Super Hi-5)

Best Value: #1 Low Gear Power 6-1 10th
Next Best: #2 A Lil Dumaani 7-2 3rd
Exotics Use: #4 No Grande 20-1 7th
Super Add: #5 Don Perisco 4-1 5th
Hi-5 Play: #6 Cahill Country 10-1 2nd

<$75 P4 Play:

7: 8-9-11
8: 4-8-9
9: 3 (1-8)
10: 1-2-4-5-6

3x3x1x5 = $45 ($1, singling Twirling Candy)

or .50 play spreading in the Strub:

3x3x3x5 = 135 x .50 = $67.50

Good luck!
Steve

McLaughlin (#7 Occelli) taking no money in the 8th.. Not a good sign for that one.

#11 Benergy, (who I'm kicking myself for excluding), taking some money, as is Pat Byrne's Lion Heart half to Majesticperfection.
