Crist: Bring Back Championship Series
I was just reading mention of this series a few weeks ago and was wondering what happened to it. I think I have a better shot at hitting the Pick-6 at the Breeders' Cup this year than it ever happening, but anyone else think it would be beneficial to bring it back?
http://www.drf.com/news/championship...orthy-reviving I don't know that it would necessarily have to include only Grade 1s. You could still use the Oaklawn Handicap and possibly add a race like the Charles Town Classic to fill that gap from the Santa Anita Handicap to the Foster. I would even include The Met Mile. Thoughts? |

It would be nice to see something like that attempted again.

our older division needs serious help. hell. the entire graded division needs revamping. some kind of series would be a good thing.

I would like to see something like that for the male turf division. It can start with the GP Turf Handicap, followed by the Kilroe, Muniz, Maker's Mark, Early Times, Dixie, Manhattan, Eddie Read, Arlington Million, and conclude with the Shadwell Turf Mile. The Early Times, Dixie, and Manhattan were actually part of a bonus series around 18 years ago.

I'm still waiting for the Triple Crown Challenge to return.

Waste of money if it happened again.. the older dirt division doesn't even deserve the purse levels they run for right now.. They don't need bonus money on top of it..

no, the division as it's been lately might not have been as deserving-wouldn't that be a reason to attempt something? to enhance older racing as incentive to continue to run some horses?

Good idea. I'd like to see Eclipse awards determined by the fans. Like baseball .

Huh? End of the year awards in baseball aren't determined by fans.

You didn't get a vote?

This year, horse of the year was voted on by the fans. Those couldn't have been knowledgeable racing people that voted that.
As for the series, I liked it when they had it and think it would be a good thing to have again. More than that though, I'd like a national stakes schedule. Whether or not the races are tied together is secondary.

I would love to see this series to return. If done right maybe it could draw some horses back as older horses instead of just retiring. Also you might have these horses run more often if mapped out right instead of the trainer making their own thin schedule.
