for years we went for stability in the oil producing countries, rather than trying to encourage democracy. well, here we are. countries in upheaval, and gas going thru the roof. our policies of pushing tough decisions down the road pays off eventually. we're down the road now!

You are pretty funny however you are exactly the problem. The Powers that be in this country are using you as a pawn. Keep the masses of Dems and Republicans battling it out so they miss the real underlying issue. Make them forget that the special Interests have bought both corrupt ****ing parties and the Goldmans of the world and corrupt politicos that leave office and quickly rise up the ranks to collect windfalls of tens of millions of dollars in their new private industry positions. Wake up, it isn't about Dems vs Republicans anymore, the system is corrupt and is being gamed by a few and you and I will NEVER be one of them.

Not saying you're wrong -- you could be right, certainly, as the very rich would always have influence over politicians in either (or all) parties. But then elections wouldn't matter at all, right?

Most recently, when then President Bush lifted drilling the drilling moratorium, the Congress fought him on that and nothing got done. No drilling in ANWR, no drilling in the Rockies where supposedly oil at $78 a barrel would have made it worth it economically to drill there. The drilling, which is called for due to shortness of supply is being supressed by some people. Who are they? Is it just the super rich or does a party like the Democrats have something of a bias against drilling due to the environmentalist plank of their agenda?
