President formally announces no-fly zone

In a news conference a few minutes ago, President Obama formally announced that the US would have a "leadership role" in enforcing UN sanctions against the Lybian dictator to include a no-fly zone. I agree with this action as long as France, England and the Arab League take part as promised. Many Arab League countries have significant air forces, they want this action so they must assume responsibility with planes and funding.

Second one in two days, in case you haven't noticed, he got a slight set of issues in Japan on his plate along with problems in Bahrain, issues with Saudi Arabia and UAE as well as dealing with Congress etc.

Wow, I haven't. I didn't even realize anything happened in Japan until he mentioned it before breaking down the women's tourney.

Exactly, why is he filling out brackets on national TV? Do you think that looks disrespectful to all the nations under siege? A womens bracket too. I didn't even know that tournament was about to start.

No, I think even the President has a right to be a sports fan, of course there are many who will find fault with him no matter what so posts like that are predictable.

Even I feel a bit awkward playing races and watching basketball in the face of what is happening in the world right now. The President should suck it up and, I don't know, maybe try to be a leader or something. The fact that past Presidents have been just as lame is no excuse. He was elected for change and it's the same bullshyt. There are more than enough PG1985's out there to take care of the sports world.

Why in the world does he think (or ESPN for that matter), that anyone cares on who he thinks is going to win the Men's or Woman's tourneys? Shame on ESPN for even giving him the platform to do it. How about he does a segment /breakdown on what he is going to do to prevent oil from staying at $100 a barrel. That might have been a bit more informative and productive then his little ESPN charade.

I actually agree that too much emphasis is placed on sports in this dangerous age. Regarding ESPN...well they gave James an entire program to announce he was taking his skills to Southbeach.

It's not like I'm a huge supporter of President Obama's politics, as I've said before, he's way to conservative for me. It's just that the level of pure hatred that is directed his way is disconcerting....issues with his policies are one thing, a thread critical of his basketball brackets, wording of his speeches etc etc becomes way past trite at some point. I am more concerned with his failure to support unions for example. As President, he must balance a lot...he was known as a huge basketball fan long before he was elected, it's hardly a surprise that he shows interest now. On the surface it may seem trivial to some but this constant Obama-bashing creates a climate unhealthy to this nation.

George W spent 487 days at Camp David, and 490 days - including 10 days in a row of vacation - "clearing brush" at his Crawford ranch during his presidency.

Filling out a bracket - big deal. Many Presidents were into sports, and did the same type of thing.

The great thing about sports is it has always been an escape from the real terrible things like earthquakes, tsunami's, etc. I don't think it was Obama's idea to do the brackets on ESPN, but I don't see the problem.

I don't care who he picks, but someone must, or they wouldn't have him do it every year. What happened and what is ongoing in Japan is terrible. But, not to be too harsh, life goes on. I'm sure he's dealing with the Japan stuff and everything else going on. Taking out a few minutes to do a few brackets doesn't seem like a big deal to me and I would say that regardless of who is in office.
