Default Buck Brannaman on Letterman; 'Buck' gains wider release

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Brannaman

I know that it's not racing related, but I thought some folks here might be interested. This guy's been cited by Nicholas Evans as one of the inspirations for The Horse Whisperer. There's a documentary about Brannaman out this year. It sounds like he's been through and accomplished a lot.

The only way I can sit through a movie in a theatre is if I tuck a bottle of hard liquor under my hoodie. All the tards with ADD start rolling in right before the previews & it makes me want to puke just seeing them. The bitches with their uppity little struts usually with some total cockbag boyfriend with a sideways hat. And they all laugh during the dumbass previews and say things like "that looks REALLY GOOD!"

Calzone's are way better, but perky and easy sandwhich artists don't make them.

Passed on Letterman tonight - HRTV re-broadcasted the 1992 Breeders Cup. P. Val: "I'm sticking with my guns - I still say Arazi was the best horse I ever rode" ... Sunday Silence laughed.

Next time someone gets a cellphone out in front of me to text, their bright screen shining like a beacon in the night (aka a darkened theater required for a normal person's movie viewing enjoyment), I'm gonna go over to them and read the conversation on their phone, then let them know that yes, it is indeed crucial that they live tweet the film or answer the text 'whr u at?' I mean if they don't, the terrorists win.

Okay, so Dave decided that Cameron Diaz is worthy of 3 segments for some reason (alright, it's probably because she's showing a lot of leg tonight and her clip is of her character doing a car wash in tight clothing ) so he bumped Buck and went straight from Cameron to Eddie Vedder. Buck will probably be on another time. I'm not sure if I'll catch when, but if I do, I'll try to post.

He's coming on right now. That'll be 12:12am for those in other time zones looking to tune in later.

Saw 'Buck' Saturday and cannot recommend it highly enough. Not just for horse lovers by any means either... Based on Tina's enjoyment of the film, spouses that are hard to motivate on equine topics will be engaged.

I'll effort Buck Brannaman as an ATR guest this week too..

"BUCK" (Film website)

Find theater near you...

Thumbs up For those of you....

Who have not seen this film, it is now streaming on Netflix. I've just seen it myself, it's an amazing film. What an incredible man Buck Brannaman is, it is a very inspirational story. I certainly hope the Academy will remember this picture when the nominations are announced. See it if you haven't, it's terrific.

I saw it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it too.

I have been around all types of horses, and have never seen anything like that crazy horse . The lady that owned him said she had like 18 more studs at home that just run together...

it's on the short list. and well deservedly.

i don't think you even have to care about horses in particular to appreciate his story. they were his path to healing but it could have been a different path and the story would be just as remarkable.

but with the exception of "man on wire" in 2008, documentary features that are stories of individuals don't generally do well. it's mainly stories of "social significance" (inside story, the cove, taxi to the dark side, an inconvenient truth, born into brothels, the fog of war, etc.) that make the final 5 and particularly get the win.

i hope it gets a nomination just so a few more people will see the movie. but i'm not expecting it.

Well i cannot argue with your points. As that has been the history in recent years with the Academy voters. Man On Wire was superb, and it was great that it got recognized. Still it is good to see this picture on the short list, hopefully as you say Buck will find a bigger audience. As is wonderfully shown in the film, Buck has not only a way with horses but is able to read people, and help them as well. It's quite the achievment Oscar or not, especially for this first time director Cindy Meehl. Former fashion designer no less, also quite a story herself.

yes i'm awkwardly shoehorning this into a discussion that's only tangentially related.

but seriously?

it's like saying a horse can only run in the kentucky derby if it appears on a top 10 list by a drf handicapper.
