Santa Anita set to land 2012 Breeders’ Cup

Jim Gluckson, a spokesman for the Breeders’ Cup, declined comment.

That sucks, I was really hoping that it was going to make it's way back to Belmont.

i don't mind it going back there with the surface change. can't beat the weather either.
i need to talk to tony about a trip out there, and include the bc, for vacation next year.

Maybe they will hold it at Aqueduct in 2013, the new crown jewel of the NYRA?

I think it's become clear that with the apparent plans for renovations at NYRA, Belmont wouldn't be totally ready for BC until 2013.

Huh? The work is being done at Aqueduct, and based on what the Lottery Director said yesterday afternoon, the second (and final) phase of the racino construction may very well be completed by 1/1/12.

I believe there are still some plans for, not necessarily renovations, but facility enhancements. I'm fairly certain it was discussed by in the recent "And they're off" video from Bloodhorse which talked about Santa Anita being the likely 2012 host, with Belmont in 2013.

I was really hoping for Belmont.

Easier for me since I live here but man... Belmont was the absolute best.

The mean-spirited capper to all this is that when NYRA officials learned second-hand that they were not being given the Cup yet again for 2012, they asked if it could at least be announced next week that Belmont would finally getting the races again in 2013. The Cup board’s previous arguments on behalf of Santa Anita as perhaps a permanent Cup host were flimsy or probably wrong. They proposed that Santa Anita should be considered for that because other major sports events have permanent homes (they don’t); because Los Angeles is a media and entertainment center with fine hotels and restaurants (unlike New York?); and because the 2008-09 runnings were so successful (in fact, they were the two lowest-handling Breeders’ Cup Saturdays in recent years, outdone by Belmont in 2005, Churchill in 2006 and 2010, and even Monmouth in torrential rains in 2007).
