Default 10/9: Belmont Park (P4); Keeneland ($81k P5, $22k Hi-5 C/O's)

Kind of an in and out afternoon Saturday at Belmont and Keeneland with the 'ins' coming at New York and 'outs' at Kentucky. Couldn't get lucky in the Belmont P4, but $200 straight triple in the Jamaica with $16.00 Western Aristocrat on top, and a couple $65+ P3's kept the ball in the air as the day wore on. After a good day at Keeneland for Friday's opener, it was more of a struggle Saturday, but as discussed on ATR this week, that's the nature of the poly main track racing there.

Top human stories from Saturday were the individual riding efforts of Corey Nakatani (6 wins in 7 mounts tying BEL record) and Julien Leparoux (4 wins after 4 Friday), and Mrs and Mrs. Ramsey winning their 2nd and 3rd stakes of the weekend in the HAW Gold Cup (Headache) and TCA (Holiday for Kitten) after Friday's Alcibiades (Stephanie's Kitten).

On the four legged front, Gio Ponti continued to add to his Hall of Fame resume with a second facile Shadwell Mile score, and My Miss Aurelia was brilliant running Frizette foes off their feet. While certainly not as august a performer, Never Retreat is becoming kind of a female version of Gio Ponti and was incredible capturing her first G1 in the First Lady.

Hope everyone did well Saturday.. More good racing Sunday including an $81k P5 carryover at Keeneland!

9th: 56th Spinster (G1), F&M-3+, 9f (DD, Super)

More or less a second running of yesterday's First Lady with an added 110 yards. What has happend to this once important event exemplifies the paradox of the synthetic era that converted G1 standard that saw immortal winners like Princess Rooney, Bayakoa, Susan's Girl and Azeri give way to the mundane likes of Mushka, Acoma, Asi Siempre and Panty Raid. That's not to say it isn't a good betting race..

I've been a big fan of Gio Ponti ever since he was a 2YO, but a Hall of Famer? If we're looking at turf milers as potential Hall of Famers, wouldn't Lure be the first one of recent times to deserve enshrinement?

Hard to believe Bravo missed the break there. Changed the dynamics of the race totally.

The experiment hasn't worked. Crawl back to Jersey please.
