Default Baseball Al Central continues to heat up

The Al Central has gotten wild. The Tigers only lead the Twins by 1 1/2 and the Chisox by 3.
Hard to believe that only 3 games seperate these three teams and that one is going to go home.
Yanks now up on Detroit by a full game for best record.

Comes down to the very last weekend of play, with a one game playoff to decide perhaps both the division title and wildcard very likely.

Yankees better pray Detroit gets the Wild Card because Chicago and Minnesota will take them out in a five game series. The Twins are unbeatable in that short series.

The Yankees have beaten Minnesota 13 of the last 15 times they played them. Short series or not, the Twins do not scare me.

The Yanks have beaten the Tigers 5 of the 7 times they've played them this year. Each of their losses were games blown in the 9th inning, both times when Mariano Rivera was unavailable. Kyle Farnsworth blew a game in Detroit and Scott Proctor recently blew the 2nd half of a double header by giving up a 3 run homer. Overall the Tigers do not scare me either.

White Sox??? Not overly worried either.

The A's are the Yanks biggest challenge. They're having an excellent season and I'm hoping to see this matchup in the ALCS. The winner there is your World Series winner.

The National League sucks. The World Series is going to be the equivalent of having Henny Hughes vs. Zippy Chippy in a 6 F match race.

If it comes down to it... in the last series of the year, the Twins play the White Sox. Johan Santana is scheduled to pitch the last game of the season. The good news is, Silva is pitching better, Bonser has been very good, and we get Liriano back tomorrow!
We do have two tough series though... the A's right now, and a pesky Cleveland team next. If the Indians get pitching they are almost unbeatable. So like the Roayls right now, the Indians are no push-over either. It's gonna be a dog-fight all the way to the finish.

I agree about the Twins. Why would they pick this year to not lay down for the Yankees? And clearly the Yankees outplayed them this year so far and while the Twins are improving so are the Yanks.

That said, I hope its Chicago and Detroit in the playoffs and I hope one of them takes NY out in the 1st round.

The Twins two pitchers can make problems for anyone in a short series. The White Sox though clearly would be the team to beat in the AL if they get in.

The Mets have a shot at the AL team, if they can blow through the NL with a rested pitching staff. El Duque will be a nightmare for anyone they face. That guy will throw 3 games if necessary and will be big in all three. With the Mets bats and speed, they can compete with anyone. They are built for playoff baseball. Their starting pitching is a question but their relief is as good as any AL team, probably better.

The White Sox will win it all though if they get in.

If its that lopsided, surely you'd be willing to give me 10/1 odds and I'll bet that this year's World Series winner is a National League team?

Mike, you're right about both...

Actually probably the biggest threat to the Yanks will be the White Sox if they make it.

The Twins have shown the last few years in the playoffs, they can't beat the Yankees.

The A's are always the hottest team in the 2nd half of the season, but they fizzle in the playoffs.

The Tigers are the unkown team, but they do have some veterans experience which could help in a playoff situation.

The Chi-sox (as much I hate them being a Twins fan), seem to have underachieved all year. If they do make it to the playoffs. They won the World Series last year with a bunch of returning players. So I'd say the Chi-Sox would be the Yanks biggest threat.

And as for the National League... the whole league does suck. The Mets might hang if Pedro is healthy, and a combo of Duque (who's $$$ in the post-season), Trachsel and Glavine pitch light's out ball. The big-game pitching experience is there. But are the Mets healthy and talented enough? No other team in the NL can hang with an AL team.

Gander-
The three guys that pitched in that Twins/Yankees series a few weeks ago were Baker, Garza, and Silva (who dished up 2 homers to A-rod)... I forgot. Either way, it was the bottm half of the rotation. So I don't put too much stock into that series.

I dont blame you and was kidding. I wouldnt let anyone on here make such a foolish bet. You'd e giving me the Mets and Cards, both of which are currently under 10/1 odds just about everywhere, the Mets being as low as 5/2 in some places.

Gander, I must not of displayed a proper level of sarcasm in my previous post when declining that proposition. It'd obviously be a horrendous bet on my part where I would hold zero edge regardless of my opinion.

More importantly I have a question for you. From reading previous posts I know you're a big ice cream guy. Hook me up with some advice. I've gotten into a vicious cycle of Reese's Peanut butter cup, chocolate chip cookie dough, and mint chocolate chip. Anything new or unusual you've tried that you could recommend? Thanks man.

Eating ice cream while watching baseball is truly a beautiful part of life.
