Default BC WORKTAB: Sat. 10/29; Sun. 10/30; Mon. 10/31

EARLY SESSION: Cold morning in Louisville with a steady stream of Cup joggers & just a few workers during the opening session. Top effort of the early a.m. was clearly HER SMILE as the Flay/Pletcher F&M Sprinter started easy and finished very strong including a spirited gallop-out; Turf Sprinter REGALLY READY (:50.4) with a half that felt like a maintenance move and Juvy Sprinter JAKE MO just OK going 1:01.4..

Making a positive impression jogging were 2 Pletch players as FINALE, (Juvy Turf) was a snorting little tank going around the oval twice and AIKENITE (D-Mile or Sprint) looked in great flesh and eager to do something..

The Mott team came out in waves early with ROYAL DELTA and TO HONOR AND SERVE the ones everyone was most interested in seeing. All made an extended visit to the Churchill paddock. On track, Honor/Serve was less relaxed galloping today than yesterday as he threw his head about notably before settling in the latest stages of the gallop. Royal Delta continues to look great in the aftermath of her strong work last weekend. COURAGEOUS CAT was in the first session's group as well.

Also spotted simply out for exercise were MY MISS AURELIA, TRINNIBERG, Stall's pair of ANIMAL SPIRITS and CEASE, CALEB'S POSSE, Fawkes' APRIORITY & defending Sprint champ BIG DRAMA, IRISH GYPSY...

POST HARROW AND TURF WORKS TO FOLLOW...

Thanks Steve. This is great info. Keep it coming. We greatly apprecite it.

I think this stuff is more important reading than Dougie Sal trying to find a girlfriend and RHT trying to get in the way of things.

LATE SESSION: Post-harrow works came quickly, and there were not any especially scintillating efforts. The ARUNA work was supposed to be an audition for Motion's Spinster winner to participate in the Distaff, and it felt like they never really gave her an opportunity to impress. She came out in polos and wearing a blanket, and while she went fine over the dirt, she wasn't asked to show anything and didn't really finish with relish. Motion said afterwards that he came into the morning leaning towards the Distaff and exits the morning leaning F&M Turf. I'll speculate that the decision might have already been made coming in..

The Romans Cup candidates SHACKLEFORD & DULLAHAN both worked fast enough, but neither delivered what would be termed 'wow' efforts. Shack has filled back out after his intense spring/summer campaign and seems more bruising and less brilliant now. Dale and Donegal would like Dullahan to be the Kentucky Derby Paddy O'Prado, he looks more like the Virginia Derby Paddy O'Prado. Work was OK and you can't blame the team for trying him in the Juvenile on the Main in an attempt at the 2yo Eclipse as they have, but long-term he looks like a good turf horse.

BIRDRUN (Marathon) worked with DROSSELMEYER (Classic) for Mott after the break, and the Belmont winner was clearly best. While seemingly incredulous as a Classic winner, Drosselmeyer looks great physically, shows a lot of energy, is absolutely a 10f (or more) horse and broke his maiden on this strip..

Also working were TAR HEEL MOM, SUPER ESPRESSO & PUTTHEBABIESDOWN, but I did not get a great look at them..

TURF SESSION: Work of the morning went to CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE who looks poised to defend his Turf Sprint title. Finished fast, finished strong. Feels like the whole campaign that he's had has been simply busy work to get ready for next Saturday..

Catalano's STEPHANIE'S KITTEN (Juv. Filly/Juv. Filly Turf) & TEQUILA FACTOR (Juvy-T) put in something that was allegedly a work but really looked like little more than spirited gallops. Have no idea what the instructions were, so until Catalano comments I won't either..

STOPSHOPPINGMARIA (Juv. Filly/JFT) went with SWEET CAT (JFT) went together with Sweet Cat looking better of the two to me. Pletcher later told media he's still undecided about where to go with the Repole filly. Originally she was thought to be going to the Juvy Sprint, but that's the one race we know she won't be in. Sweet Cat impresses me. She will be ridden by Borel according to his agent Jerry Hissem.

Finally, DYNASLEW (F&M Turf) put in a solo work for Seth Benzel and looked ragged tiring noticeably down the stretch..

Default BC WORKTAB: Sunday 10/30 - Flat Out sparkles

I could relay all the various notes and work notes, but for now, let's just say the morning belongs to FLAT OUT who turned in as impressive a drill as you could possibly hope to see. Did it effortlessly and didn't want to stop. :23.2, :46.1 and out in :59.0, double gallop out in 1:12.0 and there's even a 7th furlong time I don't yet have. He was awesome. If you're a fan, you can spend the week feeling like you're behind the horse to beat in the Classic.

More at the harrow break including To Honor and Serve, Royal Delta, Havelock, Daddy Knows Best, Satan's Quick Chick and the joggers...

ROYAL DELTA continued to exhibit fitness, contentment and readiness with another strong effort that would have been the 'work o' the day' had Flat Out not come along. She went smoothly for her official half in just under :47.3, but it was her finishing quarter in sub :23 that particularly drew wows from the binocular set. Already the horse to beat in the Distaff and available for sale in November, Royal Delta gives Bill Mott an outstanding chance to annex the Friday feature for a second year in a row...

Mott also sent TO HONOR AND SERVE for a drill, and the Live Oak Bernardini son was efficient getting even eighths on route to a 5f timing of 1:00.0. He galloped out smoothly as well, and was not overly eager or anxious at all. Will be very interested to hear Mott's thoughts, but you'd think he will be very pleased by the Pennsylvania Derby winner's professional effort today.

Since we're talking Mott, COURAGEOUS CAT was out for a jog and continues to look healthy, handsome and happy...

Darren Miller's HAVELOCK was one of the first workers of the sunrise set and delivered what I'll call an under-the-radar work getting a half in :49.0 and galloping out in 1:02.3. While the times may not impress at a glnce, he looked very comfortable turning in the spin and ran through the wire without any urging in his final serious prep for the Turf Sprint.

Turning in a pair of less than stellar works were a pair of Distaff mares as Jerry Jamgotchian's SATANS QUICK CHICK and Farnsworth Stable's ASK THE MOON both labored through their paces.

Another pause in the action with Turf works still to come...

After the harrows, UNCLE MO and STAY THIRSTY both got around in varying degrees of 'good' without any real demands put on them. MO eased through an ordinary 5f in 1:01.18 (Welsch) and out in 1:14.81 under Johnny V who motivated the Indian Charlie colt through the late stages. Not much to say about it other than it felt like Pletcher is happy where he is with the 2yo champion and simply wanted a maintenance move. STAY THIRSTY however, who has been characterized as a modest morning horse, outworked Rule easily starting outside and maybe 1.5 lengths behind and finishing about the same amount in front of his stablemate getting 5/8ths in 1:00.1 with a good gallop out. It may have been by design, but Stay Thirsty's effort was the better of the two Repole Classic players. Will be interesting to see the quotes from Team Todd..

Baffert's IRREFUTABLE worked after the break, and was kind of a mess switching leads around in the stretch and shortening stride noticeably; King's Bishop winner CALEB'S POSSE went a smooth half in :48.0 and appears in the same form he has been for the last few months for Donnie Von Hemel; SWITCH went 5f in 1:00.17 but it was in between others and I missed the major portion..

HAVRE DE GRACE, who will work tomorrow under Gabe Saez, galloped twice around with Larry Jones aboard and looks a picture; STACELITA, PURE GOSSIP and PROSPECTIVE were all out for jogs after the break as well..

Back to the early portion of the morning, WILBURN was out jogging and is absolutely beautiful; AIKENITE worked with 3yo filly SHARED HEART who was recently 3rd in Miss Valentine's Mom's Command, and was out-performed by her; Fawkes' pair of BIG DRAMA and APRIORITY made appearances and it just feels like the defending Sprint winner is up against it. He certainly doesn't look the same as he did a year ago; I missed TAKE CHARGE INDY completely unfortunately, and I'm anxious to get a look at him in the flesh..

Turf works just wrapped with CAMBINA, COALPORT, COUNTRY DAY, GRAND ADVENTURE, HOLIDAY FOR KITTEN and the TAP tandem of SIDNEY'S CANDY & FINALE all getting in jaunts... Turf course has firmed up a fair amount over the last 24 hours with much less sloshing and fewer clods being thrown.

The most notable try of the grass gropes came from Juvy Turf candidate Finale who is a handsome, compact colt that stayed with his veteran stablemate every step of the work and even stayed on far through the gallop out to get his head in front. I didn't have any special feeling for Finale when I arrived here, but he has made a very positive impression and looks to give Pletcher a very good shot at a repeat in the event a year after Pluck's rally..

I like Wilburn a lot. Especially against that field. Good to know he looks great.

Twitter is great for following the Breeders Cup works. The Grade One Racing team (Bruno De Julio and Mary Jo Rosen) Racehorsereport (Jude Feld), Mr Byk, DRF, even Steve Haskin had a tweet about Game On Dude's work.
