TVG discontinues Tampa broadcasts
Despite annual increases on the Tampa Bay DownsThoroughbred signal through its advance deposit wagering(ADW) platform since 2007, the TVG network has chosen not to telecast Thoroughbred racing from the track for the foreseeable future. The Tampa Bay Downs signal continues to be broadcast on a limited basis by HRTV.
Last season alone, as the Tampa Bay Downs signal continued to increase in popularity, $20.2 million was wagered on TBD through TVG, a virtual 33 percent increase from the previous season. “The ball is in their court,” said Tampa Bay Downs Vice President and General Manager Peter Berube. “They have severely underpaid us for a number of years and we are finally in a position to be compensated at market rates. We are asking them to pay exactly what other market ADWs are paying for our signal.” http://tampabaydowns.com/ |

Tampa offers free live video feed on their own website. More tracks should follow suit, but that would make too much sense. http://tampabaydowns.com/tampa-bay-d...ive-video.aspx |

I haven't had TVG on since the Saratoga meet ended. Their loss. |

I just dont understand why they can't show all the races without all the talking head nonsense. It's inevitable that there will be breaks between races, fill that up with the studio talk and show the damn races when they are run.

Dish Network offers the Roberts Simulcast package - same feeds as the OTB's...Don't know if it worth switching and then paying for it, but it's an option at least. Does TVG carry GP? I figured that would be a HRTV signal since it's a Stronach track... If not, they better hope for an exciting Inner meet.
I like their Hollywood Park coverage, but that meet is over in a couple weeks and then their Cali signal goes away too. Good luck to 'em. Foolish move. |

They must find it embarrassing when they have one of their "feature" tracks cancel, and they announce "we dont have any other video content we can show you" when there are 10 other tracks running.

At this time of year TVG is utterly worthless anyway.

TVG is the only account I have and I am more than happy with them. As long as I can wager and watch Tampa im ok. Hollywood, Gulfstream Aqueduct and Tampa is all i need and want

They need to merge with HRTV or one buy out the other. It is absolutely ridiculous to have two horse racing networks and even more so to have so many talking heads on the payroll for both networks.
Most of them should be unemployed and spending their days at Occupy Los Angeles. |

Your missing the point. The thread is about TVG the television channel, not TVG the ADW.

I'm clearly in the minority, but I think they do a great job @ the California tracks - the paddock interviews provide first hand insight directly from the trainers you will get no where else, having Ron Ellis' perspective on air is impressive, and quite frankly, I don't have any of the issues with most of the on air talent that's gets displayed here regularly, especially now with the departure of Ken Rudolph. As for the rest of their coverage, I can take it or leave it.
Stark comparison to the unwatchable / unlistenable derck the is spewed out of HRTV 24hrs a day, that is when they aren't re-running the same 6 pre-recorded programs over and over again. Siegel and Lurrie are the exceptions - but for the rest - you can have 'em. I'm in Matt's camp - I don't care to watch racing on the computer, and am disappointed that they can't seem to come to an agreement on the price of the signal. It will severely impact TBD's handle, and TVG's viewership. Lose -Lose for both of them. Foolish is the only word that comes to mind. |

Why not have an East Coast base at a major track there and provide the same type of coverage that they give Hollywood and Del Mar? On the flip side, I would also be thrilled with one person in the handicapping pod, just setting up, showing and giving results for every race as it goes off. I just don't understand how Betfair who's trying to get a foothold in the country is going to develop more of a fanbase and more importantly bettors by continuely dropping tracks/content from it's roster. You would think that adding tracks/races would be the way to develop buisness.

The industry as a whole is failing miserably with on-air talent and that includes the on-track feed analysts outside of NYRA.
If the intent is to have moderately attractive young women as analysts then they need to do a better job of making me stop thinking that these women slept their way into the position. I'm not going to name names. That wouldn't be fair to those involved and I wouldn't have any ground to stand on... |
