WHAT?

I just checked and he was only 16 years old. Very sad news. You know, when we lose these horses it's like losing one of your heros. Even the lowest of claimers are heros to someone.

RIP Charlie.

sorry to hear that. he's made quite a mark on the sport; hate to see them go at a relatively young age.

Too bad he was really in stride as a stallion.

He was rightfully looked upon as a rock star at Airdrie, condolences to them.

So sorry to hear this. It really took me aback when I heard the news. I had no idea there was any kind of problem. Both Indian Charlie and Real Quiet gone too soon.

I didn't even know he had cancer. Does anyone here know how long he was sick?

I saw him at Vinery in 2000, and he looked like he was going to die back then. He was the only stallion still at Vinery at that time (the rest had shuttled), and they said he looked terrible due to problems related to being a wobbler.

I'm glad he lasted as long as he did, looking back, but this does suck.

Looking forward to his 2yos of 2012, which will be the crop from which he first stood for over 50k (75k).

Oh, the accounts of his retirement are not accurate. He bowed before the Preakness. I was told this a few days before his retirement was even announced by someone relatively close to the situation, off the record.

Yeah, that entire crop seemed to be blessed with an abundance of bad luck. There were some real monsters in that year, and they all seemed to have experienced some awful luck both on the track (Grand Slam) and at stud.

Favorite Trick died in a barn fire. Old Trieste died really young, and both RQ and IC died too young as well.

EOTY could have been a great one too, at least on the track, had he not been hurt.

Coronados Quest died of a heart attack after a mating.

thanks.

I have always felt he should have been one of the all time greats, had things gone differently for him. That he was as awesome as he was, while being a wobbler, is nearly incomprehensible.

Has it ever occurred to you that people might have different perspectives and/or beliefs from yours?
