Default leopard spotted horses

i watched warner herzog's cave of forgotten dreams on netflix tonight. it reminded me i had read about this earlier. just thought i'd share:

hmm, interesting. i didn't realize they were arguing the fact in the first place, that spots couldn't have appeared back then.
i know of leopard spot appaloosa's, and of course knabstrups. there was a leopard spotted app down the road, his name was prince john. cool looking horse.

if you look at the cave paintings they're more "leopard" than "appoloosa"

it's hard to explain.
