Default The future of Aqueduct NYRA is Silent???

The casino crowd has officially pushed aside horseplayers, and Genting has taken over the place . I have been a player there for over 40 years, and now the dining room looks like a low class cheap buffet! What is the future of racing at Belmont? How will they winterize it? When will NY get a breeders cup again, and tell Andy to stop yapping about the new purse money, they are stealing from little old ladies with blue hair!
Where has this game gone?????? They use casinos to bail out the greatest game in the world, and treat their players like crap...your thoughts?????

The state couldn't give a s.hit about horse racing. They are trying to use the casinos to bail out the state. Thankfully for racing, they will be able to go along for the ride (at least for now).

The slots are a shot in the arm. Maybe NYRA will be given the chance to develop a future and do it successfully. Phase 1 they are getting the money. Phase 2 they have to be allowed by the state to invest it correctly. Phase 3 they make the right decisions and things improve based on the reality of the industry 20 and X. Assuming NYRA is given a shot, I believe they have a staff that cares about the Industry and the customer.

I agree with you the State has issued a license to steal and I agree the long term harm that stealing X percent of every dollar is indeed a poor way to stimulate anything.

The best we can hope for is the State to continue the flow of stolen contractual money to be diverted to revitalize NY Racing and that NYRA is educated and skilled enough to make that money properly effect the long term goal of making racing a viable business.

Thumbs down

Steve needs to get Stephen Travers from NYRA on his show to comment. I know him, and his people do an awesome job for the players, but they are all being squeezed out by the casino crowd. Let's stop waving the Pom Poms with Andy, and find out what the hell is going on here??? Journalism, not cronyism is needed at this point?

Ok your done now.. First what makes you think Andy loves slots? I have never read or heard him supoort slot machines? What Andy does is promote the product and the origanization that he works for because he believes that the people that he works for care about the Industry and the Player. Andy is always for the player and never for the Slot player , Andy represents the immediate impact (good) what the slot money has done. He reps that the money makes it more economical for certain types of horses to remain in NY. Why your sudden interest in Andy? Why would you be so concerned that the single most bettor friendly personalty in racing is waving POM POMS? What is your hidden agenda? You think Andy doesnt recognize that the casino business and moey comes at a price? I am sure f you asked him his take on the advent of the casino business in any of his public forums (friday nights) he would be happy to expand on the realities of the quasi partnership that the state has elected NYRA and Genting to commence. iInstead you make ridiculous attacks on Andy why? did he give out a horseyou bet and it lost or ran so poorly you where enbarassed for him? Trust me he gives out horrible bets daily and is STILL the best thing to happen to racing save Steve Byk in a long time.

Is this about a bad dining experience at Equestris?

Let's take a look at how "journalists" have handled the situation at NYRA. They understandably took the hard line with takeout fiasco and NYRA responded in kind. That is a situation that won't be rectified easily, but NYRA will do what it can. Last week, the Albany Times-Union decided to start an embarrassing witch hunt about the NYRA Rewards ADW policy on deposits. They were wrong, and even the most avid NYRA dissenters dismissed the piece as idiotic.

What exactly should someone like Andy say about the racing on air? Those of us that follow NYRA on a regular basis are well aware that the caliber of horses that have stayed up north is better this year. The majority of the people who question the quality of racing at this year's meet have not been playing the inner track on a regular basis.

I can't speak to what the live experience at Aqueduct is like as I have not been there, but some of what you've said is a little difficult to understand.

Less empty space and while the food court is down the stretch at least if you want you can grab something decent. It's Ozone park in the dead winter hardly Saratoga or Delmar. It is what it is, a place built during the glory days that is not suitable for the todays market. That doesn't mean the pleyer is worse off if so how so because the purses went up or because 1000 people playing Pai Gow is a bother?

Steve is the best advocate for racing...PERIOD. Andy is NOT an advocate for casinos, he is a person who should be more involved with the players, and give an unbiased approach for the gam. I've been involved with NYRA private player outings, he comes in an never gets involved. Want NYRA to be a voice for racing, and the people who support this game with their hard earned money at the highest level. No hidden agenda, just an owner of horses, and a player for 50 years in NY, so when I'm DONE my son, I'll let YOU know!

Really I have attended such parties myself and have had the opportunity to meet Mr Serling and he is always willing to help patrons. Perhaps you were at the Florida Derby party that Mr serling attended and i watch him interact with such people that you woefully rep he doesnt. Sad very sad, if you are an owner then you should be thrilled atthe the new purse structure, I assume you owned a horse years back and now are in your mid 70's plus longing for the days when 12k came to the track in 1964. Sorry the gambling bug is throughout the country and racing is no longer the only game in town, as I sad Old man your done. Take your Anti NYRA/Serling agenda somewhere else.

Well said, Freddy, the buffet comments were a smoke screen for someone who has an axe to grind.

I like AQU. Shoddy exterior but it fills a void at a time when racing in that area is in hibernation at the top levels.
