Default Super Tuesday

Here it is: the GOP's probable best chance to choose a nominee, to let a nominee really come to the forefront.

Now, Gingrich and Santorum swear they are in it for the long haul, but ... you need money. The GOP is being torn apart by emphasis on losing social issues (the birth control debaucle). Romney, for his part, has been tepid, and just had an old op-ed published from 2008 that disproves his "states rights" stand on the campaign trail about health care (and reiterates his flip flopping ability) Romney advised Obama to have a mandated purchase of health insurance.

Gingrich and Santorum didn't even get on the ballot in Virginia. At best, any one candidate could probably win 5 states of the states voting Tuesday.

Vote for your best choice for President:

From NYTimes politics overview:
Quote:
OHIO: Perhaps the most important state is Ohio, where Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are in a tight race. Its working class population and manufacturing economy make it a bellwether for how the Rust Belt might vote in the general election. And it will be a sign of whether Mr. Santorum’s appeal is growing or fading.

GEORGIA: It’s got more delegates — 76 — than any other Super Tuesday state. And it’s a must-win for Newt Gingrich (he says so himself), who represented the state in Congress for years. The South is an important part of the Republican Party’s winning coalition, and Mr. Gingrich is betting that Southerners will like his chances of beating President Obama.

TENNESSEE: It could be part of a string of victories for Mr. Gingrich if he does well. But it also could be a place where Mr. Romney could prove that his appeal can reach into traditionally conservative communities. Unemployment in the state is almost 9 percent, making the economy a central issue.

ALASKA: Ron Paul actually flew to Alaska over the weekend, giving the state the kind of love it rarely gets during elections. A deeply red, conservative state, it’s not much of a swing state in the general election. But Mr. Paul may see its rugged individualism as a plus in his hopes at winning a state on Tuesday.

MASSACHUSETTS:
Mr. Obama is the basketball player, but this should be a slam-dunk for Mr. Romney. He served as governor in the state and remains well liked there. It’s a state that leans liberal in the general election, and with Mr. Romney on the ballot, it has not been contested by his Republican rivals during the primary.

IDAHO: The state is holding caucuses — not a primary — on Tuesday, a fact that Mr. Paul’s campaign thinks is in its favor. Mr. Paul came in second in the state in 2008, and is hoping to do better this year. Mr. Romney campaigned in the state last week, appearing before large crowds of supporters, and could also do well there.

NORTH DAKOTA:
Like Idaho, North Dakota is not a state that gets much attention during the general election since it’s considered a lock for the Republicans. But Mr. Romney’s strategy of trying to win as many delegates as possible on Tuesday brought him to the state last week. In 2008, he won the state over Senator John McCain of Arizona.

OKLAHOMA
: The third of three Southern states that Mr. Gingrich hopes to win, Oklahoma has plenty of delegates and a sizable conservative base. That could appeal to Mr. Santorum, who has said he might do well there. Mr. McCain won in 2008, but only after a strong challenge from Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas.

VERMONT
: The Northeast knows Mr. Romney the best, and Vermont is no exception. Mr. Romney’s campaign expects to do well there. (He didn’t do well in 2008, but only because he had dropped out of the race by the time the primary came around.)

VIRGINIA: The ultimate swing state, Virginia might have been the marquee contest on Super Tuesday had Mr. Santorum and Mr. Gingrich not failed to qualify for the ballot. Mr. Paul is campaigning, but polls suggest that Mr. Romney holds a commanding lead and could snag all of the state’s delegates for himself.

But none are as depressing as the current office holder, so all are an improvement.

Yes, in a strange twist it is only the "blind" that can see that the emperor is actually not wearing his purported new clothes.

I'm sure Jesus would have a public comment about the GOP obtaining that free ride ... good cartoon! Lot of undertones there ....

Obama is turning out to be a very good president. Much better foreign policy than Bush, has done much to restore our respect in the world. Pulled us out of Iraq, killed bin Laden, trying to keep the hawks from trying to blow up the middle east again. Has done the most for veterans of any president in the past 50 years (education, homelessness, PTS, etc) Has shifted the tide to get us in more favorable trading positions relative to China. Changed energy policy, our oil importation is lowest ever (43% from foreign sources), we now net export oil. Saved the auto industry, and as a condition of bailout cars will be getting 50+ mpg within a few years, cutting every single families gasoline expenditures in half within 10 years. Finally passed the Republican health care plan from the 1990's (improved health care something every President has tried to obtain for American people since before Nixon) which will lead within about 5 years to a strong single payer, decreased costs for everyone, better care and access. Has extended Medicare lifetime by 10 years with healthcare plan, too. Saved us billions. Got rid of No Child Left Behind, trying to renew our tattered school system failures and get us back up in the top twenty of educated countries in the world. Has saved us billions in government costs with reforms to college education loans. Has the only budget plan, out of all current presidential candidates, that actually decreases our debt over time.

All against a 100% obstructive alternative party who has publicly stated it's only goal is to make this president fail.

A party who, in two years of overwhelming control of the House, has done nothing to help this countries economic and job outlook, while passing record numbers of anti-abortion bill after anti-abortion bill.

Well done, Mr. President, I'll be proudly voting for you again in 2012. And we'll give you an overwhelmingly Democratic/Independent House and Senate so you can continue to pull this country into the 21st century against the will of those that want to return us to the 1700's.

Yes, all the emotional five-year-olds can't do more politically than throw tantrums and call names. Yet we let them vote. Even the "I'm an anarchist!" ones <vbg> (who can't seem to do more politically than throw rocks through windows and start confrontations. Seems there's a lesson there ... )

America. Gotta love it.

Anyway ... Coach's troll to stop this thread hasn't worked, so the rest of us can carry on and discuss Super Tuesday voting.

It is interesting how the Derby Trail voting seems to mirror the current national vote numbers, re: Obama (48-49%) vs. all comers.

i don't know whether to laugh or cry after reading this

I guess laugh, because I find it hilarious how some people can LOVE Obama and absolutely HATE Bush when they have had the EXACT SAME Presidentcies!
