Default Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day, first implemented in the early 1900's.

In celebration, let's reflect upon the Rush Limbaugh's of the world, the politicians who are currently attempting to overturn laws that protect long-established women's rights, and the few posters here who repeatedly grace us with their hate-filled, nasty, misogynistic comments directed at some of the women here (because "they deserve it" and "they make me behave that way")

It makes us appreciate why the day is still needed in 2012.

You really didn't need to step up and embarrass yourself that way

The comment was about the words and attitudes some people choose to use here - not who particular individuals dislike and why. Because there has been far more than one person on this list who has been on the receiving end of those particular individuals over the years.

I'm sorry you've completely missed the point and are unable to understand words.

Happy Women's Day...have a good one....Meanwhile..

McDonnell signs disputed abortion ultrasound bill.

Check the video at the link.

Also ltr to ed...

Keep the GOP out of OB-GYN.

Did I miss something? The party that wants government out of our lives wants to dictate the practice of obstetrics and gynecology?

Lorna Wyckoff's Commentary column, "Sliding back to sadder times," is spot on. Her friend was one of the lucky ones who survived an illegal abortion. During my training years my attitude about abortion was forever influenced by being at the bedside of an 18 year old girl and watching helplessly as she died of uncontrollable sepsis resulting from a coat-hanger, back alley abortion. Choosing a safe medical abortion is a decision to be made by an individual woman and no one else.

"Real men want empowered women" (and for Anti, change that to "real women")

McDonnell has now completely trashed his Vice Presidential ambitions. The only ones left are Christie, Rubio and Daniels.

The new bill doesn't have the transvaginal internal ultrasound, it has external ultrasound, but it's still the Big government dictating health care and costing people money for unnecessary health procedures - with felony penalties!

These people have zero appreciation that they "do" exactly what they accuse others of. It's crazy!

There was a good discussion on one of the political programs in the last day or so (Morning Joe maybe?) about how, 20 years ago, people warned the GOP that they would have to abandon the John Birch Society and the crazies if they wanted to survive as a political party.

Instead, the GOP has gone off the deep end, and embraced the far, far right wing faction whole hog. It's crazy. They are imploding, and they are the cause of their own destruction.

Yes, obviously I've been on the receiving end, but others here have, too. I've been on this list for 4-5 years by now, I guess. The point is that some people here choose to treat women that way - and it's still tolerated by society. Just like McDonnell, just like Limbaugh, just like Santorum, just like some Catholic priests ... women are still not equal people in 2012, in the eyes of some.

Yes, you didn't understand the words. You jumped right in and made it personal, and I guess you are not embarrassed to be exposed to be superficial, shallow and hateful in that way, but I think it's pretty sad and embarrassing for you. See, you hating me doesn't reflect on me or demean me - it reflects only on you. Just like people here being nasty and rude and foul-mouthed doesn't reflect on the person they are attacking - it reflects only upon them.

Why don't you just go back and delete all your posts from the thread?

In celebration, let's reflect.
How about reflecting on the fact in America a woman has the right to terminate a pregnancy while in many Arab/African countries a man has the right to terminate his wife and or daughters in the name of personal honor? Or if by chance the wife has too many daughters?

How come Arab sons never dishonor their fathers?

it is international women's day, not american women't day. i guess that escaped your notice.
things are far from where they should be. are things better here than elsewhere? yes. are they great? not necessarily. are we sliding backwards in some cases? absolutely. you bring up a valid point tho. in many areas of the world, women aren't treated as second class. they are treated far worse than that, as chattel, as property, as dispensable, as inhuman. it's got to stop.

International is why I brought it up. Riot seems to have ignored that in yet another self loathing America moment.

I mean what's worse. An ultra sound prior to an abortion or getting a beating for driving a car?

Or having a day for every thing or person in the world excluding white men.

Why do people want these days to begin with? It's a sign of weakness in my book.

"Hey look at me I need to be put in a subset because I'm a punk as.s. Stop Kony 2012."

Typical sissy, borderline retarded folks that practice slacktivism so they can be smug like their stupid friends.

Yes, that's a terrible thing.

??? No, I didn't. God, Dell, you're simply stupid.

Let's attack you, for you not mentioning the horrors of Darfur in this thread, and the child slave trade in Dominica. Oh, wait - that would be stupid. Duh. Get over yourself.

America currently is undergoing a terrible attack on women's rights. Yeah, I mentioned it. You describe that as "self loathing"? Go join Limbaugh.

Yeah, good thing we live in the good ole US of A where we are free and safe...We don't beat (most of us) or kill our wives..we just force them to have unwelcome invasive procedures...
