Why is this a crime?

The bank fucl<ed up. If they told you that you had $1.5 million what would you do? Obviously, I don't believe this guys story about blowing it all gambling -- but he doesn't deserve any jail time. Jail should be a place for dangerous people and true crooks. Not for poor people with no prior record who get handed a $1.5 million opportunity by Skank of America. |

15 months for 1.5 million is a pretty good deal. They say he also has to pay it back ? Now that is the funny part. I also dont believe he lost all of that gambling, or atleast i hope he got a few hookers too. |

Yeah -- losing $1.5 million gambling isn't easy.
I suppose he could say that he wanted to turn that $1.5 million into $2.5 million -- and give them back their money and keep the profit for himself. I would bury it in various places throughout remote corners of my parents properties and say 'Sorry fellas, I gambled it all away' A nice looking young white man with a good lawyer and no criminal record would have got virtually no prison time. |

You know this has happened before and they put the money into an account of someone who went off the grid, or bought a new identity, or left the country all together.
Not saying I would but... |

"If his gambling addiction is not addressed, he is very likely to cause further financial hardship to himself and his family," the memorandum reads.
Holy sh!t that is funny.

Reminds me of the story of Joey Coyle. He grabbed $1.2 million that fell off an armored car, and then went on a spending spree. He was eventually acquitted of theft due to temporary insanity (and, they made a movie).
