Cool back to Toga...Finally...some local recommendations

After about a 20 year hiatus, I am finally getting back to Saratoga with the wife and a friend for 4 days on Whitney weekend. Can anyone recommend some restaurants and bars...nothing stuffy though I am there to enjoy myself.

Being a Jersey boy...I was a big Lord Avie fan and two of the most memorable were 1980 when Great Prospector savaged Golden Derby in a 2 year old stakes, Lord Avie finished 3rd and sitting in the pouring rain at the 1981 Travers watching Lord Avie spot the field 30 lengths and closing to finish 3rd by less than 2 lengths...of course I had him to win and place.

Parting Glass bar for Irish Breakfast, Coffee, Bloody Mary(s), Scratches and Changes has become a cornerstone of our trips.

It beat dancing with the girls next to us. Big Kevin failed us. Great bands, great beer, great Irish car bombs, horrible food.

Come to think of it who ordered pizza at an Irish Pub anyway?

Two I know

Hampton Inn, one of the best Hamptons I've ever seen, downtown Saraoga Springs (if you have deep pockets)

Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Malta (a little farther but about 15 mins and right off the highway. Much more economical and a Dunkin Donuts w/in walking distance, a service station selling beer and DRF across the street)

I always thought that was an odd thing to do.
