Default Romney at NAACP convention

Well, at least he tried. But I can't believe his campaign staff was so stupid as to let Romney read, off his teleprompter, the following three lines - all three of which received - not unpredictably - prolonged boos from the crowd.

"I am going to eliminate every non-essential expensive program I can find. That includes Obamacare." His comments were met with extended boos from the audience.

He was also booed when he told the largely black audience that "if you want a president who will make things better in the African-American community, you are looking at him."

"if you understood who I truly am in my heart, and if it were possible to fully communicate what I believe is in the real, enduring best interest of African-American families, you would vote for me for president.
" came off as incredibly condescending, insulting and arrogant.

Not much of a surprise that he was booed by this group.

Stupid like foxes, Riot. Those soundbites of NAACP convention attendees booing him are music to the ears of the righties that Willard needs to woo. Don't think you're giving the Repugs enough credit here.

You are just use to the "divider-in-chief" and not somebody that can reach across to all Americans.

It was a great speech and there will be more to come.

Buh-Bye OB

Yes, if it was deliberate (rather than unbelievably inept on the part of his campaign staff) he's got good clips deliberately collected to play to the bigots. Trouble is, that small slice of the country is not enough to elect him

Hell, even Rush called him, "Snow White with testicles" the other day. Rush can't stand him.

He's got no road, at this point, to the White House via electoral votes.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt over his NAACP speech until his outrageous remarks last night at the fundraiser.

Between the Mother Jones story revealing for sure the Bain lie on the SEC filings, and the overt disrespect and bigotry he displayed last night, this guys campaign is about over.

People are already speculating on a replacement at the convention - but I think they will write off this election and just let him implode. It's too late to waste a good candidate on this lost cycle.

The only question is, will Ron Paul control what happens at Tampa next month, and how fun will it be to watch?

You really do not know what these words mean do you? When he said the best Presidential candidate for the black community (between the two of them anyway) was right there before them he was right. The black community, or any community for that matter is no better off for having had the current President.

I mean exactly what I said. The clips of the boos at the NAACP speech will be good clips for Romney to play in his ads targeting the support of racists and bigots. What Romney said later at the fundraiser last night was outrageous, disrespectful and bigoted.

The Mother Jones story - and the last 24 hours of other breaking news to verify it - shows Romney is either a liar to the public, to cover up outsourcing, or a felon who lied to the SEC.

What was bigoted?
I see where you are heading with it but I am curious as to what would be considered bigotry in that speech.

Please re-read what I said. I didn't say Romney said anything bigoted in the speech. I said his fundraiser remarks were.

Do tell, what would be the narrative of a Romney advertisement that features him being booed at the NAACP convention?

Doesn't he already have that market cornered?..Not much left for him to woo.
Obama already has 97% of the black vote...
If Obama spoke at a KKK meeting, don't think he'd add much to the 97%.

I don't write ads. We'll see what they do when the internet ads come out. Considering how badly the Bain thing is going, I give it a week.

Naw, alot don't like him. Romney campaign is afraid they will stay home in November.

Romney is what he is. He put Obamacare into law first. He's only recently, this cycle, tried to become Mr. Superconservative, and he's still trying to prove those bonafides to his base. Look at Rush's attacks on Romney as "Snow White with testicles" just the other day. Rush has dissed him multiple times, as have many a blogger on RedState, etc.

Romney campaign appears to have gone all-in on corporate sponsorship (Cheney, Koch Brothers) of the candidate, with the votes having to come from the far right wing. He's gotta get those folks to show up at the polls, for this not far right wing candidate, and they are fighting changing demographics, and they know it.

I'm betting that Romney doesn't play any ads of him being booed at the NAACP convention.

Default MItt Romney flew in African-Americans to NAACP meeting

The director to the NAACP’s Washington Bureau revealed on Thursday that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney had conservative African Americans “flown in” to the 103rd convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to make it appear that he had more support than he really did.

During an interview with Fox News host Neil Cavuto, Romney said that he had met with a “number of African American leaders” after his NAACP speech and they told him “a lot of folks” were disappointed in President Barack Obama.

On Wednesday night, MSNBC host Ed Schultz asked NAACP Washington Bureau Director Hilary Shelton which “African American leaders” Romney was referring to.

“The campaign actually gave me a list of African American VIPs that they brought in to the NAACP meeting,” Shelton explained. “So, I’m sure those are the one they set down with because, quite frankly, none of the rank-and-file NAACPers met with him.”

“He’s talking about African American Republican politicians that were actually brought in — flown in — to the NAACP convention in Houston, Texas to be there for the [candidate] alone,” he added.

“That means that Mitt Romney rigged the crowd to support him there so he could go on TV and say, ‘You know, actually I got a lot of support among African American leaders,’” Schultz noted.

“Apparently, that’s what the case is,” Shelton agreed. “They are bringing people in that they know will support his agenda from other places that aren’t active with the NAACP. These are people that were actually brought in to provide the cheering for him so there will be some support for him along those lines.”

While Romney did receive some sparse cheers and applause during the speech, the loudest reaction came when the crowd booed him for vowing to repeal “Obamacare.”
