Default REPORT: Fox News Spends Two-Plus Hours Distorting Obama's Small Business Comments

REPORT: Fox News Spends Two-Plus Hours Distorting Obama's Small Business Comments

Over two days, Fox News spent 42 segments and more than two hours of airtime manufacturing a scandal by deceptively editing comments President Obama made at a campaign appearance in Virginia.
What else is new? Details here:

What about the small businesses forced to close early last Friday here in Roanoke for Obama's visit? Ya know, many of the same businesses that lost even more money a couple weeks earlier because of the massive power outage that swept the area? Why was it so necessary to have his speech at the old Firehouse #1 in the middle of Downtown, as opposed to having it at the Civic Center 1 mile down the road, where no businesses would have been forced to close?

THE PRIVATE SECTOR IS DOING GREAT!!!

GTFOH with that hypocritical bullsh*t.

I'd guess you fully support the Texas Republican Party's 2012 platform regarding education.

Let's see ...
Ranting off about something completely unassociated with subject of thread...
Attack Obama ...
Misquote Obama ...
Insult poster of thread ...

Hey, thanks for playing! If you ever want to discuss, you know, the subject of the thread, come on back anytime.

Otherwise, we'll just always wonder in what weird, warped mindset you can call me a hypocrite (the idea is hypocritical) for posting about a media lie, because you don't like the President appearing downtown in Roanoke?

Media lie ... anger over a presidential appearance. Sure, those two things are totally associated! It's hypocritical bullshi.at. to mention a media lie, when you're personally angry over the President of the United States appearing in your town! I should have seen that! I should have known you are personally pissed at Obama, and not dared to mention a media lie about something else entirely! Of course! Bizzaro world.

Which part of

“If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

did you not understand?

Direct quote, not paraphrasing. Obama stepped in it this time. This might have been a Howard Dean scream moment for him.

“If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he declared outside Roanoke Fire Station No. 1 to applause from a faithful crowd.

“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there.”

Words that were spoken.
If you want to say you wouldn't have a business if it weren't for roads or the internet, then that is what you should say. The thought that roads would exist without the business that actually pay for them in ridiculous. Industry drives government, not the other way around.
Taken out of context is the big argument, then keep things in context and you won't look like a douche to the hundreds of thousands of people that DO make it happen on their own.

Perhaps someone that has never really had to work in order to earn should keep his comments about those of us that do to himself.

great post... the only exception I take is with the last sentence.. I would imagine being the President of the USA is one of the most stressful, time consuming, hard working job that anyone can have.

I have no doubt about that, but it isn't meant to be done to earn a living.

very true.. at least it was not supposed to be done to make a living.. but all you see is career politicians these days who make quite a good living by screwing the American citizens.

LOL - Taken totally out of context deliberately, and you've fallen for it. Please - don't be so gullible to feed your Obama Hate. I know the GOP only has fear and anger this year. Don't help them too readily.

As I said in the thread start:
Quote:
REPORT: Fox News Spends Two-Plus Hours Distorting Obama's Small Business Comments

Over two days, Fox News spent 42 segments and more than two hours of airtime manufacturing a scandal by deceptively editing comments President Obama made at a campaign appearance in Virginia.
Here's the entire quote - tell me what part you don't understand.

Quote:
"If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together."
So what we really had was the President applauding the greatness of the United States, and how it's enabled individual success.

As I said in my reply. This thread is about Faux News and their continued lying. Not about Obama. If you just want to go off on a, "I hate Obama and his appearance in Roanoke" rant, do it elsewhere?

It was in context. That's kinda the whole point.

The statement that the mixed-race son of a poor single mother, left with his grandparents, who worked and got into Columbia, then Harvard, became and worked as a lawyer, then got involved in state politics, then was elected Senator, then President of the United States, "never really had to work" is beyond absurd and laughable.

Do you have a private sector employment history that shows if the President didn't make any money for his company that week he didn't get paid.

Don't take things out of context, I said work to EARN. It takes work to go to school and write books but neither of those is like making payroll for 22 people when your company didn't have a good month or quarter.
Supplying the entire quote for the 2-3 people that haven't heard it in its entirety will soften the blow but it still shows that this President is clueless when it comes to understanding common business and economics.

What is your point? That it's only valid "work" if you have a business of a certain size with a certain number of employees? That's absurd. The President has worked to earn to support himself, and later himself and his family. Like nearly every other American. Employees "work", and self-employed accounts, doctors, auto mechanics, etc. "work" even if they don't have a business and have to make any payroll other than themselves. Obama has done that.

If you want to look at someone who was gifted, geeshus, look at Romney. He never started from scratch. The toughest period in his life, according to his wife, was when they were "poor" in school, and they had to live off stock income! He never made any product. But he still "worked" in my view.

Yeah, but that was all accomplished via Affirmative Action...
