Default Senate Republicans just killed the Veterans Jobs Bill

Reminder: the way our country works, 51 votes is supposed to be the necessary majority needed to pass legislation in the Senate

Sorry veterans. Enjoy being a pawn for Romney.

In their short work week before heading out of town, Senate Republicans decided to give the finger to veterans, using a procedural vote to kill the Veterans Jobs Corp Act, 58-40.

The Veterans Jobs Corp Act would have created new job-training programs to help veterans find work in targeted fields such as national park conservation, historic preservation projects, police work and firefighting, among others.

The unemployment rate for Iraq, Afghanistan and Gulf War II-era Veterans—those who would have most benefited from the bill—is now at 10.9 percent, but Republicans blocked this bill because they don't want anything that could remotely help anyone to happen under President Obama's watch.

That, and they don't really give a **** about veterans, much like Mitt Romney, who called the men and women fighting in Afghanistan items on a laundry list.

That's just how Republicans are.

I have only just started reading this and there is so much nonsense included it is unreal. Write a bill that says we are using this money to train soldiers for jobs after there military service is completed. Not one that says;
SEC. 8. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR ULTRA-DEEPWATER AND UNCONVENTIONAL NATURAL GAS AND OTHER PETROLEUM RESOURCES.

(a) Repeal- Subtitle J of title IX of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (42 U.S.C. 16371 et seq.) is repealed.

(b) Rescission- The unobligated balances of funds made available for fiscal year 2012 under section 999H of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (42 U.S.C. 16378) (as it existed before the amendment made by subsection (a)) are rescinded permanently.

or

SEC. 4. AUTHORITY TO DENY OR REVOKE PASSPORT.

`(a) Ineligibility-

`(1) ISSUANCE- Except as provided under subsection (b), upon receiving a certification described in section 7345 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 from the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of State may not issue a passport or passport card to any individual who has a seriously delinquent tax debt described in such section.

`(2) REVOCATION- The Secretary of State shall revoke a passport or passport card previously issued to any individual described in subparagraph (A).

`(b) Exceptions-

`(1) EMERGENCY AND HUMANITARIAN SITUATIONS- Notwithstanding subsection (a), the Secretary of State may issue a passport or passport card, in emergency circumstances or for humanitarian reasons, to an individual described in subsection (a)(1).

`(2) LIMITATION FOR RETURN TO UNITED STATES- Notwithstanding subsection (a)(2), the Secretary of State, before revocation, may--

`(A) limit a previously issued passport or passport card only for return travel to the United States; or

`(B) issue a limited passport or passport card that only permits return travel to the United States.'.

(e) Effective Date- The amendments made by this section shall take effect on January 1, 2013.

or

SEC. 7. 100 PERCENT CONTINUOUS LEVY ON PAYMENT TO MEDICARE PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERS.

Paragraph (3) of section 6331(h) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking the period at the end and inserting `, or, with respect to payments made during the 5-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of the Veterans Jobs Corps Act of 2012, to a Medicare provider or supplier under title XVIII of the Social Security Act.'.

If these kinds of things were left out of legislation, no one would complain. DC is a pit.

Geez wonder who the troops support overwhelmingly for President?

I'd suggest finding out who and showing support for the troops by voting for their pick!

Based upon the successful repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell (one year anniversary, military has announced very seamless success); the yoeman's work Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden have done for veterans issues (lauded by military leaders as most attention to vets issues in decades); the increase in budgeting for veterans issues and health issues, the attempt to get specific programs developed to get returning veterans out of high unemployment and into jobs (blocked by GOP), the ending of the wars, I'd guess ....

Romney? You know ,that guy who ran against Obama in 2012, that wants to start a war in Iran asap?

The notion that veterans are a pawn for Romney is an outright lie. The reason the Republicans would not agree to this is because it violates the Budget Control Act by exceeding spending limits set by the debt ceiling agreement and increases the deficit. The Democrats could have complied with the law and found spending decreases to balance it. It was bait thrown at the Republicans.

The allegation that Republicans and Mitt Romney don't give a s*** about veteran's is an outright lie. With Congress ready to go on a seven week break, the Democrats are trying make the false claim that Republicans don't care about veterans to create a campaign issue. What a disgrace.
