Default First results in: Obamacare is working

Remember that $716 billion Republicans falsely say Obama "stole" from Medicare? (it actually was just reapportioned to strengthen Medicare)

Well, it turns out Obamacare has improved, and is continuing to improve, Medicare exactly as it was designed to do:

Quote:
“Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, the Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug programs have been strengthened and continue to improve for beneficiaries,” said Secretary Sebelius.

“Since the law was enacted in 2010, average premiums have gone down, enrollment has gone up, and new benefits and lower drug costs continue to help millions of seniors and people with disabilities.”

For the third year in a row, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) used authority provided by the Affordable Care Act to protect beneficiaries from significant increases in costs or cuts in benefits.

Access to supplemental benefits remains steady and beneficiaries’ average out-of-pocket spending remains constant.
Obamacare is proving to provide:

Premiums down
Enrollment up
New Benefits
Lower drug costs

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012...are-advantage/
"Obamacare Strengthened Medicare Advantage To Provide More Low-Income Americans With Affordable Coverage"

And Kaiser Family Foundation agrees with that assessment:

Quote:
HHS’s assessment of Obamacare’s impact on Medicare Advantage is confimed by health policy organizations like the Kaiser Family Foundation, whose June report found that the program’s enrollment rate rose by 10 percent while the average premium dropped by $4 during the first half of this year.

Thanks to the ongoing implementation of the health reform law, low-income Americans should continue to see their Medicare Advantage premiums decrease over time, and they will soon have a wider array of quality-rated plans to choose from

June 2012 Medicare report Kaiser Foundation
And this doesn't even include the closing of the prescription drug donut hole, banning of co-pays and deductibles for preventive care, and extending the solvency of the Medicare trust for for an additional 8 years.

Republicans promise to undo this if elected

Default Obamacare working for City of Atlanta

Quote:
Atlanta Embraces Tenets of Obamacare, Cuts Health Costs by $3.2 Million

By Sy Mukherjee on Sep 18, 2012 at 1:05 pm

For the first time in six years, the city of Atlanta will see its health care costs and city employees’ premiums go down instead of up, to the tune of $3.2 million in savings.

As the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, the city’s contributions to health plans for more than 19,000 residents were initially expected to increase by $4.3 million, but new projections show that health costs will actually drop thanks to a new emphasis on preventative care, negotiations between the city and insurance providers, and massive savings in Medicare Advantage plans:

everyone....just forget it. go stock up with vaseline, ky, or whatever lube you prefer. cause we're all about to take it up the you-know-what.

In fact, let's quote your article on this:
Quote:
“This report confirms that more than 98 percent of Americans won’t be affected by this penalty,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services. “And this update doesn’t change the basic fact that the individual responsibility policy will only affect people who can afford health care but choose not to buy it.”
And your article also confirms the two articles I posted, that Obamacare is working with Medicare Advantage

Quote:
Republicans were also faced with evidence on Wednesday that their dire predictions about the Medicare Advantage program under the health care law aren’t coming true — at least for now.
Thanks for posting that third confirming article, Clip-Clop. Yes, Obamacare is working

You do realize you're quoting Kathleen Sebelius who will probably be fired for violating Federal law (the Hatch Act), right?

Yeah, I figured some here would try and attack the messenger. So that's why just below the part you quoted, I posted the Kaiser Foundation which verifies everything she said via their own Medicare measurements.

You shoulda kept reading

Only in fantasyland can better healthcare, more covered, and lowered costs be something to attack.

I have no problem being completely honest and saying that I did not click on the second link.

Truthfully if I have X amount of time to screw around I'll do a quickie, sometimes pick one thread to look at down here and leave it till later or leave it completely alone if I can stand that.

Wasn't attacking her, just bringing it up.

I'm not really thrilled with Federal employees breaking the law but maybe that's just me.

Okay have fun.

The insurance exchanges are not yet in force, are they? That means your insurance company isn't dealing in an open, competitive market yet - they still have a bit of a monopoly over you this last year.

However, rest assured, right now, that if your insurance company doesn't spend at least 80% of that premium dollar on your health care, you will get a rebate, thanks to Obamacare. 12 million Americans already got the first rebate this year first week of August.

Right now, you, Dell, and everyone else here, have the following great benefits from Obamacare:

- You can no longer be kicked off your insurance for reaching a lifetime dollar cap

- You can never be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition.

- Your out-of-pocket medical expenses are capped.

- If you are single and make less than $43,320 a year, you will be eligible for assistance to purchase insurance on exchanges if necessary

- If you own a small business, you are except from providing insurance to your employees; if your company is more than 50 employees, you qualify for a tax credit for offering insurance to them.

- There is a new Consumer Assistance Office to help you file a complaint or appeal a decision from your insurance company.

- Insurance companies can no longer make excessive rate hikes; those doing so may be barred from participating in the exchanges.

- If you have children age 26 or less, they can stay on your family insurance.

- Your parents have had the Medicare Part D "donut hole" closed, and now they pay only 25% of drug costs up to $4550, and only 5% of drug costs above that.

Republicans want to take all the above current benefits away, and vow to repeal it January 2013.

Yes, when you can't attack the facts and figures given by either source, change to a personal attack attempting distract from the facts, and attack the messengers You've attempted to smear HHS and the Kaiser Foundation.

Perhaps, instead of changing the subject to a distracting straw man that has nothing to do with the performance of Obamacare, you can stick to the subject, and instead give a source that shows the measured facts are somehow wrong? Just for laughs.

Or you can stick with, "Obama Sucks!" as a rebuttal.

The only fact I know is that my insurance went up.

I freelance and have paid for my kids and for myself for years.

Those are my truths.

I said google it because I'm not going to pretend I knew any of it.

I'm not trying to change the subject, only commenting of the sources you used.

Honestly I don't even care.

ROR !!! Message is if your premium is up it's the insurance company's fault - but if they go down - you can thank Obama.

Get with the program

I'm not going to stress over Obamacare.

I have a feeling things might work out. The flaws will be corrected and if they aren't then you will start seeing a rise in health care facilities and doctors who won't accept any form of government healthcare.

And you will see a few wise insurance companies offering indemnity, critical illness, short term health, and the like.

Change will be good.

Obama is getting reelected so we just need to toughen up and make the best of it. The more I think about the guy the more I'm starting to believe he might not be the worst thing to ever happen in the universe.

This is such BS! As premiums sky-rocket. These employees, who do not covered has to find their own coverage that they can't handle. Yea that's some help to the lower class.

There’s no question that the package of taxes and other revenue-raisers that the law contains constitute a large increase. The most recent estimate from the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation puts the total for more than a dozen different tax increases and other “revenue-related provisions” at $675 billion between now and 2022.
