![]() Obviously Obama voters..
A nonchalant widow at the polls. A West Village, N.Y. pollworker encountered a widow and her adult daughter casting ballots on Nov. 6: Each signed the roll book, one under the other. The mother then told me that her husband, whose name was listed just below her own, could be removed from the rolls: he had died just a week earlier. Stunned, I expressed how sorry I was. “Oh, don’t be” she instructed. “He already voted absentee."

romney won iowa with voters who went to the polls on election day. but obama carried the state by 6% because of the large lead built up via absentee voters. http://www.press-citizen.com/article...d-results-show that's the most dramatic illustration. but the old saw that early voters are republican voters just isn't demonstrated in the numbers anymore. republicans pioneered efforts at getting their committed voters to cast early ballots. but both parties now work hard to get those committed votes in early. winning elections is a bi-partisan goal. if something works for one party, the other won't be long in adapting. absentee voting used to be a small % of the overall vote. i don't know what the final figures are nationwide but pre-election i had heard estimates that 30-35% of votes would be cast early. i know colorado had more like 70%. we're getting close to the point where we'll be discussing the impact the minority of people that wait until election day to vote will have on elections where the majority already voted in the weeks before.
