I saw the FB page of the missing kid who was briefly incorrectly identified as a suspect. What a horrible thing for the family to have to go through, on top of the agony they're already suffering from their son being missing for so long.

props to reddit for doing the right thing and apologizing. it took hundreds of years for print journalism to develop the tools needed to avoid the kinds of traps that on line media seems to step in over and over. at least in this case, one organization recognized the error which gives hope that next time they'll handle it differently.

crowd sourcing can be an effective tool for some jobs. but having panicked ninny's wildly speculating and passing that off as "journalism" is about as far from effective as you can get.

Did you hear about A/P getting hacked ? Someone sent out a tweet from the Associated Press this afternoon saying that the White House had two explosions in it and Obama was injured. The stock market went from being +135 to negative 143. Then the A/P announced it has been hacked and the stock market went back up. Some people made billions on that fake tweet.

not just the internet. with so many news agencies trying to be 'first' there's too many mis-steps. witness john king, cnn and their mess the other day, announcing an arrest-and then having to backtrack.
and how is wolf blitzer still employed? and susan candiotti--did she really not have time to come up with a better phrase to describe the ghost town that was boston friday? did she really think 'it looks like a bomb had been dropped' was a good way to put it?

Tried to sell Stewart, "That last aborted baby to swim out of the toilet was Ryan Lochte. Ever since then they've kept the toilet seats down" Maybe I should have used philly or Obama in the joke?

just read that charges have been dropped against the guy charged with mailing the ricin letters. someone else is being investigated-possibly mailed them and made it look like the first guy did it.
oh, and i wonder how the elvis impersonator is going to handle his family going on record about his mental issues? nothing like your own relatives kicking you while you're down.
and, once again, shows why we must assume innocent til PROVEN guilty. charges aren't proof.

Looks like they arrested the other guy. I didn't think the Elvis impersonator was the perpetrator of the letters. He seemed too dumb. Said he never ate rice.

What was the old saying, a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still pulling its boots on? I think it's credited to Mark Twain, but then, everything is credited to Mark Twain:

^^^^ i love it. yeah, if it wasn't twain, then i'm sure it's will rogers!

yeah, i heard that about him not eating rice. odd ball. but yeah, just read the article about the other guy getting busted. i think they've got the right one this time. he and elvis had discussed writing a book about body parts, but then had an argument. he also had issues with the others that received letters.
