Default Considering A Move To Ocala, FL Horse Farm - Opinions and Advice Needed

I'm seriously considering purchasing a 10 acre horse farm in the Ocala, FL area. Currently I have 6 acres in Maryland. This would be a "pre-tirement" move for me. I'm very excited about the possibilities but apprehensive at the same time. I'm familiar with Florida and visit regularly so it's not like a foreign place to me. I trail ride. I have two horses and a horse trailer so I can drive to trails.

I would sincerely appreciate opinions, advice, warnings, anything at all from those of you that live in the Ocala, FL area who own property and have horses.

Many thanks!

It's not so much "God's Waiting Room" as redneck country. I have a small (3-acre) mini-farm in the Blitchton area, about 15 miles NW of Ocala, and my wife and I love it here. We're no longer breeding thoroughbreds, but we still have a QH mare and a mini. Have you got your sights set on any particular property yet? I can tell you that there are many farms for sale right now, but property values are beginning to come back a little, so I might not wait too long if I were you.

Mike: Thank you SO much for the info. I'm going to send you a PM. I do have my eye on a property. It's 10 minutes from where you live.

lol
it's a joke, we've always called fla gods waiting room. and it's interesting that north florida is 'southern' while south florida is 'northern' in attitude.

joking aside, that's a beautiful area. and i can understand moving there instead of staying in maryland, where i used to live. the cost of living up there has only gotten higher and higher as time goes by, and that's why my folks moved. they didn't go quite so far south, they're in south central nc. weather is great, expenses are LOW.

good luck, trackrat, whereever you decide to move.
