You Can't Name Your Kid That
At least not in Tennessee....This is America, you can name your kid whatever ridiculous thing you want. That's what freedom means to me.

The Judge will surely be overturned.
And she is still hearing cases? The only justification I could see interjecting her opinion would be if little Messiah's parents were State supported and the State would be the one responsible for raising him. |

Normally I post to be all, "Technically this is not what happened, the media is distorting, blah blah blah" but in this case, having now read the link and watched the interview with the judge, may I just say, judge be crazy.
In her words: "The word Messiah is a title and it's a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ," Judge Ballew said. I look forward to her court order that Judge Reinhold change his name to Frank. And that Major White become Bernie White. And what, exactly, did Jesus do to "earn" the title? This idiot woman is both a bad judge and a bad Christian. Her reaction over being asked about the popularity of the name Jesus in Latino culture is pretty priceless. What the hell are the standards for being on the Tennessee judiciary? You're fine as long as you're able to speak more than four words together without inserting an audible "durrrrr"?

Favorite gawker quip about this:
"So we're back in a U.S. where the names of people of color can be arbitrarily changed by white folk in power. Let's party like it's 1799!"

Watch the video. And also watch the part where the judge is asked about people naming their sons Jesus. She almost violates the no audible "durrrrrr"s rule of being a judge in Tennessee because you can see it fighting to come out of her mouth.

Surprised she's been an attorney since 1989. Being a Chancery Judge I wonder if any of her divorce rulings include Hail Mary's or Our Father's or if she can even force herself to decree a divorce of a marriage that took place in a church? Had Frank Zappa been living in Cocke County TN there may have never been a Moon Unit. |
