Default Twin Spires Jackpot P5

Introduced this week and starts today. Fun, clever concept. Even if you aren't a TS user, access available Fri-Sat-Sun to the sequence PP's and analysis: https://www.twinspires.com/jackpot-5...s-and-free-pps

This is a good alternative to the Magna Pick 5 and National Pick 4. I hope more of these wagers are available.

Essentially a 5 horse show parlay with an affective takeout of 64% (not counting the seed funds) until the carryover reaches 500k and the mandatory payout.
ACCEPTED: 06ed3-2e013 JS5 #1 $0.80 Pick-5 5,WT,6,WT,10,WT,4,WT,7 $0.80
ACCEPTED: fafa7-8f231 JW5 #1 $0.20 Pick-5 5,WT,6,WT,10,WT,4,WT,7 $ 0.20

The takeout rate is 20% not counting the seeded funds which effectively lowers the takeout. 80 cents of every dollar is either going towards the Jackpot Pool or the Show Pick 5 pool.

Thanks,

Because 20% goes to the winner/carryover pool 80% is paid out to the "show parlay" pool. 80% of 80% makes the effective payout 64% not counting the seeded funds. I should have stated the effective takeout is 36% before seeded funds.

I understand it may be confusing the way we needed to operate the wager. From the $1 base wager. 20 cents is placed into the Jackpot pool (16 cents after takeout) and 80 cents is placed in the Show Pick 5 pool (64 cents after takeout). So the takeout rate is 80 cents for every $1 base wager. That is the max takeout before considering the added value of the seeded funds.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Jeremy Clemons

We're on the same page. I'm only contending that the effective takeout for the show pool is 36%. In other words if there was no jackpot carryover, 80% would be paid out to the show pool. Because 20% after takeout goes to the carryover the return to the show pool becomes 64%.

Jackpot 5 Win Carryover $27058.88
$0.80 Jackpot 5 Show 5,9,10/4,5,9/5,8-10/1,4,7,8,12,13/1,6,10 5 of 5 $155.36
Nice payoff accelerated by Marketing Mix getting nosed for 3rd in the second leg. A $1 show parlay was roughly $20 using the lowest payouts in each leg.

Would be more enticing if the used stakes races on major circuts on the weekends. I have no interest personally in buying pp's to handicap 1 race at Indiana Downs or La Downs.

PPs are free for the Jackpot 5. Handicapping LAD ain't that bad either.

155-1 on a Show Pick 5 seems pretty good to me. You are right that Marketing Mix was the key to getting a nice payoff.

Steve - saw this over the weekend and was curious what you thought of it. I immeddiately did think of the Magna 5. Nice to have a multitrack $1 pick 5 back.

I calculated the pool to be $12,868, 20% of the net pool went to the jackpot amount, and that went up $2,058.88, so pre-takeout that would be $2,573.60. So multiply that by 5 and you get $12,868. But then yesterday's handle was, based on my calculations, only $8,314, or basically a 1/3 drop, and the winning payout was only $7.92.
