Default Beltran and HOF?

To me he is the single best position player in post season history. That alone should put him in. People talk about players that do it on the biggest stage. He is it. His stats are incredible.

Yep. 15 homer in 156 plate appearances....he hasn't played in nearly as many playoff games as so many on that list as well. For the games he's been in. It's him.

If that is your yardstick Nelson Cruz has 14/137 and Chase Utley 7/49 (World Series). We tend to throw the term "All Time Great" around daily. In my lifetime I have witnessed very few All Time greats.

1. Wayne Gretzky
2. Michael Jordan

Overused yes, but I am saying position player in the playoffs....and you seem to be forgetting just how clutch he has been in the playoffs over a career as well.

Mariano Rivera

Payton is very close to making the list

Randall I am not forgetting anything. He has been a great player for sure but to say he is all time best really with the history that baseball has? I would expect that from RockHard but not you.

I was going to put Marino Rivera but is he the best baseball player or the best relief specialist.I had a hard time on how to handle that. Best baseball player of all time in my mind is Babe Ruth because he was so much better then his peers and his stats stand up 80 years later. I don't think I can even do Football because it is such a team sport and is so dominated by the system one plays under. Look at QB's Montana and Steve Young where they all time greats or Great QB's because of the system they operated in.

The Babe was special cause he pitched and hit. Mariano will go down as the best closer to ever play the game.

I understand what you are saying about the QB's, but right now (system or not) Peyton is making it look easy.

I don't know how one quantifies best player of all time in the playoffs considering that the playoffs used to just be the World Series but Beltran surely is in a class that doesn't take long to call roll. Not just his hitting but defense as well. Of course not even he could overcome the strain of wearing the orange pinstripes.

The key hit in game 2. The catch in game 1. He is getting Toridol before each game now....and gets the first RBI tonight in Game 4. A legend.

Except he was on the 2003 user list and as a DH he has a 5% chance of getting into the HOF

Really how so ? Have they not helped his performance? Would he have been able to play without them?
