Default Which Race?

This year, we have several horses that are looking at a couple of races on the BC card and that seemingly fit well in more than one. I'd like to see some opinions from posters on which races they think fit certain horses best and why.

Ouija Board and Pride....F/M Turf or Turf? For both of them, I'd say that the open Turf is a better race for them. Both seem to clearly prefer 12f to 11f and both have shown on numerous occassions that facing the boys is not an issue for them.

Showing Up.....Mile, Turf, or Classic? It seems like Tagg is leaning toward the Mile with him. It seems like the choice is between that race and the Turf. The 12f of the Turf might be beyond his scope though and I think the Mile is the better choice of the two. I think he's got the speed and the class to give a good performance. Whether or not it's enough to win remains to be seen. The Classic though, that might be the route I'd take. He ran a really good race in the Derby, all things considered, and I think that once u get past the top two (Discreet Cat or Bernardini and Lava Man), the Classic is pretty wide open. That's the one I'd go in.

Gorella........Mile or F/M Turf? At this point, I don't know which way Biancone is leaning. I get the feeling that he is thinking Mile with her. It's hard to argue with how well she ran last year in that race and u'd have to think she would be hard to beat this year. There have been a lot of people saying that the 11f would be too far for her but I don't agree. She stretched out to 9.5f with no problem and while I realize that's still a long way from 11f, she has not actually shown that the added distance will be a problem. If anything, she's shown that it won't be. I think she fits in better in the longer race, especially if Ouija Board and/or Pride opt for the open Turf.

Discreet Cat.........Sprint or Classic? I've said that I think this horse goes in the Classic if Bernardini loses this weekend or just falls out of the picture for some reason. I think that this horse has the ability to win in either the Classic or the Sprint but I think the Sprint would be a REALLY tough race. I would rather face Lava Man at 10f away from his home base than face Henny Hughes and Bordonaro at 6f. Also, running in the Classic would still give the family a chance to win both races. Everyone says they wouldn't run Discreet Cat in the Classic if Bernardini is already there but I feel the same way about the Sprint with Henny Hughes. It's already been well documented by me on here though that I would prefer the Mile with this horse. The distance is perfect, there are no other family stars here, and the top contenders for this race are nearly as good as Lava Man or Henny Hughes. The only question is the switch to grass but if Lure, War Chant, and Prized, among others, have done it, why not Discreet Cat? Talent is as talent does.

George Washington......Mile or Classic? I know that the Mile is the race he's coming for if he comes over and that's fine. But the second he crossed the line first in the QE II, I penciled him in as a Classic contender. That race is purely a race of stamina and horses that do well at 8f over Ascot's demanding course are usually more suited to 10f races when they come over here. In fact, I usually add at least a furlong more to what I think any European horse can handle when they come over here. I think he's far from the lock in the Mile that some think he is. He's possibly going to face a couple of horse that have already beaten him this year in Cadarak and Araafa and I also think Aragorn is going to take a lot of beating here. As mentioned before, once u get past the top two, the Classic becomes pretty wide open. Even a third there might be better than a win or second in the Mile. Plus, u have to know that they would love to spoil a Godolphin party with an upset by this horse in the Classic. Won't be surprised if he's pre-entered in both if he comes over.

Wait a While.......F/M Turf or Distaff? Everyone is automatically putting her in the F/M Turf and with good reason. She is a monster on the grass, clearly much better form than on the dirt. But it's going to be a totally different game facing a field that could possibly include Ouija Board, Pride, Film Maker, Gorella, Alexandrova, and Angara. There could be a ton of quality in this race and she'd really have her hands full. While I said before that I don't discount a horse's ability to do something that they've never tried, watching her run gives me questions about that extra furlong. She seems to put her fields away in the 8th and 9th furlong and then cruises home. I don't think she could do that here. My question is has her recent dominance been strictly a factor of her going back to the grass or could she just have turned the corner as a race horse and be ready to produce the same kind of effort on the dirt now? I feel that if she's finally found herself as a racehorse, the Distaff would be hers for the taking. I don't think any of those horses there can compete with her if she runs like she has been lately. So has grass or maturity been the key to her break out?

Like I said in another thread, Wait A While's versatality is going to be a huge asset and I'm backing her at the windows.

I'll leave the deciding to the real trainers though.

Showing Up should go in the Mile. Gorella in the FM Turf. No way on earth Wait A While goes in the Distaff, she isn't the same horse on dirt.

George Wash seems to me to go to the Mile.

Discreet going is unlikely at best.
