Default 8/25: Saratoga ($71k C/O; NY Turf Writers Cup)

Terrific Travers Weekend gets a $71k carryover coda Monday as the NY Showcase card produced enough pricey winners to stymie those that tried to string the six together. Hope everyone did well on the meet's biggest day. With today's tricky card we begin to prepare to wind down the intense 7 week Spa extravaganza...

SARATOGA RACE COURSE

POST-SCRATCHES

1st: 72nd NY Turf Writers Cup (NSA-G1), 4+, 19f-National Fences (P3, DD)

G1 event benefited from being pushed back by weather coming up tougher than originally drawn. Last 2 race winners -- Italian Wedding and Demonstrative -- headline this group with Liz Voss adding Smithwick winner Makari. Pace looks honest to assure all of fair chance..

Most Likely: #7 Demonstrative 3-1 WON ($6.60)
Best Value: #6 All Together 8-1 4th-3rd for wagering
Next Best: #2e Naylor entry 7-2 6th/DNF
Exotics Use: #1e Sheppard entry 5-1 2nd/3rd

2nd: NY-ALW/N1X, 3+, 6f (P5, P3, DD)

Wire candidate Giantinthemoonlite can extend terrific stand for Bruce Brown, and Castellano as well, but could end up grappling with Cuantos from the bell. Swell the candidate to pick them up late..

Most Likely: #6 Giantinthemoonlite 2-1 4th
Best Value: #2 Swell 3-1 3rd
Next Best: #7 Cuantos 9-5 2nd
Exotics Use: #1 Say Mr. Sandman 10-1 6th

3rd: OC/ALW-C, F&M-3+, 5.5f-T (P4, P3, DD)

First of the day's 3 challenging turf sprints and appears that there's enough dash up front to seek out stalker/closer as winner..

Most Likely: #2 Magical Moon 5-2 5th
Next Best: #4 Indian Splendor 2-1 3rd
Best Value: #7 Good So Far 5-1 4th
Exotics Use: #1 Macaroon 2-1 WON ($13.80)

4th: MCLM/$50k, 2yo, 6f (P3, DD)

Trappy-feeling MCLMer where firsters may not have to be special to impact..

Most Likely: #3 Mr Classic Seneca 3-1 5th
Next Best: #9 Grandpa's King 6-1 7th
Best Value: #5 Skerkis 15-1 WON ($11.80)
Exotics Use: #7 Banker's Boss 6-1 2nd

5th: MSW, 2yo-F, 8.5f-T (P6, P3, DD)

$71k P6 C/O starts here..

Board clues for P6 players a big help in this thoroughly impossible group. Clocker Report adds only modest insight with nearly all having worked solidly for debuts and returns. Chad Brown of course has those gaudy turf route bow numbers and Lady Eli a half to Bizzy Caroline. Mott & Donegal's Puca (Big Brown) a half to Finnegan's Wake and moves to lawn while stretching in 2nd start and Alvarado sticks..

Most Likely: #9 Lady Eli 4-1 WON ($4.50)
Best Value: #4 Puca 8-1 3rd
Next Best: #11 Thebeatofthestreet 5-1 6th
Exotics Use: #2 Scottish Sweetie 12-1 7th

6th: CLM, 3+, 7f (G/S, P3, DD)

Treacherous $20k seller..

Most Likely: #2 Love to Run 7-2 5th
Next Best: #6 Bemata 3-1 2nd
Best Value: #7 Road Agent 12-1 6th
Exotics Use: #1a Ancient Rome 5-2 3rd

I'm sorry I do not have the time to lay these tickets out every day. For those struggling to understand the A-B-C ticket formatting, here's the way the above grid is built for $58 with all the horses when using A/B's in Caveman Style (4x3x3x4) is $72:

7th: CLM/N2L, F&M-3+, 5.5f-T (P4, P3, DD)

Zamquick SCRATCHED will be leaned on heavily for P6, but it's a turf sprint and she may have company up front, so it's not like she's invincible..
