One could aptly describe the shirking of responsibilities by an elected official to attend Armed Services Committee meetings in the wake of our Dear Emperor's impassioned plea to the world, and subsequent military commitment.... in favor of hob-nobbling and glad-handing - as incongruous.

The ruling on the field stands. It's pretty goddamned ironic.

If American ISIS militants had bombed the place the official was hobnobbing, now THAT would have been ironic.

If someone lost their job, as a direct result of using poor judgement in attempting to save their job, it would be ironic.

If a terrorist attack occurred on American soil, where this cocktail party was being held- it would be tragically unfortunate, but not ironic. Regardless of what that Senator's primary responsibilities are.
Theoretically, it would likely be assumed that she single-handedly would not have thwarted the attack had she attended the meeting rather than then party, thus zero incongruity.
